CL: Atari 800 400 1200 XL XE Collection - 135 Games

Recommended Posts

I came across this on local CL. Seems pricey but I am not totally schooled on the values of these games. Nice lot though.

I think I saw this collection on eBay a week or two ago - he wanted $1,500.00 as well. No interest from eBay, I doubt he'll get a different result with CL.

this was on ebay... as jacobus said! he's really reaching for the price... I pay MAYBE $700 for the lot if I needed to get all the carts.

He listed it for the same $ around Christmas last year. He is dreaming. It is not worth $700 either because it is mostly loose carts and none are hard to get. Ebay prices have really inflated what people expect to get for these. Some auctions go high because they have an ER or label variation and then sellers get an inflated value for all of the common carts that were in the auction. It doesn't help that there is one Buyer/Seller/Flipper out there now with two or three different eBay IDs buying cheap and re-listing for unrealistic prices, it draws in more speculators/Flippers thinking they can make a quick buck. I haven't made up my mind if this is good or bad, because it is difficult to get statistics on it. Hopefully it causes more people to look at yard sales and in their closets and put up for sale some carts that are harder to find. Worse case it just drives up the overall cost of common carts and fewer people can afford to join our ranks and then they don't get to enjoy these old systems and games.

Out of interest, what would you pay for it?

I am not sure, I would have to go through my list to see what each cart is worth to me and/or goes for. Since the carts aren't that rare I wouldn't want to insult him with an offer that is far far below what he is asking, so I wasn't bothering to calculate the exact total value.

Agreed. Way overpriced.

I also saw it when it was on ebay. with one horrible picture posted in the auction taken from 6 feet away. I sent the guy some questions, such as can you send me some up close pics of the carts so I can see the condition of the important/significant carts in the lot? He literally answered by saying I was wasting his time, and that any more pictures were not worth his time as I had no intention to bid. What?! How can I bid if I have no idea what I am getting?!

Granted, yes, I only wanted about a dozen carts in the lot. But I was willing to pay several hundred dollars just for those carts. I also knew the auction would NEVER sell at his asking price. It is worth about half as much as he is asking. Again, all depends on the condition of the carts which there was (is) no way to tell.

I wish he would part it out. List the top 20 rare carts individually, and then the remainder carts along with the system as one lot. But what can you do. It's his choice.

He won't email closer pictures because he put his own labels on the ends of the carts. I got him to reply in one or two emails before. His lot for $1500 does not include any system. Which carts are you willing to "pay several hundred dollars" for? I can check if I have any duplicates of them.

Well i did sell about 30-35 carts (all fairly common and loose) for about 150 GBP (this was 1999/2000 though), so I would guess, given present prices etc those 30-35 carts today would fetch avout 100 to 120 gbp, so this guy's 130+ carts i would guess about 3-400 tops (if he throws in a working system plus psu/tv cable and joystick)
