Gabriel #1 Posted September 20, 2010 Are there any more turn based JRPGs coming to the US for the rest of this year? PS2, PS3, 360, PSP, DS? I see that Ar Tonelico III is getting a US release early next year. However, it looks like they've given up the pretense of TB mechanics and have gone with a Tales/Star Ocean style run around and mash buttons mechanic. Reaperman #2 Posted September 20, 2010 I'm interested in this too. Is it just me or is this genre looking like it's dying? lots of action rpg's these days, and I just don't care for them.
cimerians #3 Posted September 20, 2010 I hope there's more soon. I love turn based RPG's and prefer them over anything else. I like action oriented ones too like Dragon Age but give me classic turn based any day. I kind of wish Dragon Quest 9 was released on consoles rather than portables. cybercylon #4 Posted September 21, 2010 I was hoping Persona 5 was going to be announced at the Tokyo Game Show, but alas, nothing.
neotokeo2001 #5 Posted September 21, 2010 Make sure you didn't miss Nostalgia for the NDS. If you did, then get it!!
moycon #6 Posted September 23, 2010 Well it's no JRPG but it is a turn based RPG (a darn cute one) http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/111/1116219p1.html Be sure and check out the video.
Mendon #7 Posted September 23, 2010 The just released Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City for the DS has my interest. Its getting good reviews and being called "pen and paper D&D on a video screen". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_BbPhrSGzE
cybercylon #8 Posted September 24, 2010 These releases for the DS are all well and good, but I don't care for handhelds. Tiny screen, and during the course of the day, I'm not playing video games.
cimerians #9 Posted September 27, 2010 Atelier Rorona for PS3 is out this week and features turn based combat: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/09/27/atelier-rorona-ships-tomorrow/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PSBlog+%28PlayStation.Blog%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher
moycon #10 Posted September 27, 2010 Atelier Rorona for PS3 is out this week and features turn based combat: Here's a good video of the game in action... Looks exactly like a game Gabriel is looking for. I wonder if there is a way to skip or speed up the battle animations, battle seems awfully drawn out. Gabriel #12 Posted October 26, 2010 I had already bought Atelier Rorona and Etrian Odyssey III. Those were all I had heard of for the rest of the year until this past weekend. Then, completely out of the blue, I learned of several other titles. Blazing Souls: Accelate (PSP) = There is literally NOTHING about this game online. The gaming press doesn't seem to want to admit it exists. All I've been able to determine is that it's a PSP port of a 2005 PS2 game. Apparrently, the publisher did a poll to determine which game they should localize and this one won. It features a character I recognize from Cross Edge (and is probably the origin game of said character), and seems to be a tactical RPG associated to the Spectral Souls Neverland series. Beyond that, I have no idea. There are hardly any screenshots, no reviews, no nothing. ZHP Unlosing Ranger Vs Darkdeath Evilman (PSP) = This is another one where there is precious little information about, but the difference is that the game seems to be some kind of fanboy favorite. As near as I can tell, it's a typical NIS Disgaea engine tactical RPG with a superhero twist. Cladun: This is a RPG (PSP) = I learned of this as the same time as the other games above. I haven't looked much into it. It struck me as being in the same vein as XSeed's 30 Second Hero game, and I didn't find that particularly interesting. However, I may have to look into this one some more as that initial impression may be completely off base. As it stands right now, all I really know is that the game generates random dungeons to explore. What surprises me about this is how I keep my ear to the rail to listen for upcoming releases like this, and I had not heard of ANY of these games. (I also hadn't heard about the Hokuto Musou localization until I was literally playing the demo on Xbox Live.)
hex65000 #13 Posted October 26, 2010 Another vote for Nostalgia here. I just started playing it on Saturday and I'm enjoying it so far. The combat rating system is kicking my butt and I've died in a few air battles already. It's a clear step up in difficulty when compared to FF3 and A Witch's Tale. I do like the turn based combat systems a bit more than the real-timeish ones if only because if I fall asleep while playing I don't die immediately. While not turn based, Phantasy Star Universe on 360 has been fun for me too. Hex. [ Notes that A Witch's Tale is like a JRPG gateway drug. It's a relatively easy playthrough (twice), and was enjoyable in that context. ]

Cladun and ZHP look pretty cool and I never heard of the first one. None of them actually. Cool but I havent been into portable gaming as of late.
