Trustworthy repairs (east coast USA preferred)

Recommended Posts

So does anyone still do repairs? I have a 600XL and an 800XL neither of which have worked since I got them but both are complete and clean and I'd like to find someone who can fix them.

try Sloopy

He just resurrected a 130XE I had that was completely dead, kept me up to date on the progress and also added 320k, SIO2PC and piggybacked dual pokey...

Took about a month or so and I was very happy with the work.

[edit]

here are some photos http://orph.atarinet.com/photos/main.php?g2_itemId=6321

I did the case mods, but all the electronics were done by Sloopy... Originally the XE was black screened, it turns out it was a clock issue.

Do they exhibit the same problem? If so, have you checked that your power supply is only outputting 5V?

Both seem to be completely dead. The power LEDs come on but nothing else happens and I've used multiple power supplies that I know are functional with other machines I have.

Have you tried swapping components between the systems?

Best bet would be first CPU, Antic, MMU. Try one at a time

He messaged me about it but his location is a little farther away than I would normally consider traveling. I might still give him a try, though, if nobody else steps forward.

Unfortunately in this day and age finding someone close to you to travel to is going to be a tough proposition. I just mailed the motherboard to him, if you can't get either machine working you can get both in a medium flat rate box for about $11.00 each way. probably about as much as you would pay in gas for travelling.

Also you can try switching chips between machines, although with both of them being dead you might not be able to figure out what's the bad chip/s in each.
