Q*bert's Qubes CIB (Atari 2600) - RARE

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I plan to sell my recent find of Q*bert's Qubes and wanted to generate some interest. The auction will be on eBay within a few days. From what I can gather from various websites this game is truly a “needle in the haystack”. Check out the picture of the actual package.

This rare CIB game has been used, but gently, as I remember not liking it as a child. With a rarity score of 9 (or 10 depending on which site you use), this will make a great addition to any serious collection. It has been protected for the last 25 years in storage and prior to that lived in a smoke free home, which no doubt contributed to its amazing condition. I recently cleaned the cartridge and can verify that it is in working condition (and more fun than I remember).

Instruction Manual: Near mint condition with no notable wear

Box: Very good condition with some minor age-appropriate shelf and corner wear but very little fading. Luckily, this happened to be the only box I ever kept.

Cartridge: Near mint condition with no notable wear. Label still has its original gloss and is firmly attached.

Let me know your thoughts.

I'm sure you can nab a bundle for this. It's actually a great game, though it takes some getting used to. It seems complex at first, but it's really not. There's a pattern to it. I already own it, but I know a lot of people are looking for one. I don't think I've personally seen a CIB auction of it, or at least I don't remember. Then again, I don't really have a reason to look either.

I've sold off one CIB 5 years or so ago... and then sold off the box and manual the other time (that one was actually a complete trade for items). Both times I was very happy with the overall amount. I don't see the Tray in the picture above... but I don't think that is an issue as I don't remember it being a special tray. It looks to be in great condition... you should get over $400 for it... as long as the market hasn't completely fell out for one. But like mentioned above, there are quite a few people looking for a CIB one. The last one I had generated serious emails from 4-5 people. You'll get what you are looking for, I'm pretty sure of that! Do yourself a quick favor though... give references!!! Good luck!

Demand for this title has dropped off a little in recent times. Up until recently, a boxed example hadn't appeared on Ebay for years and then all of a sudden about 3-4 boxed examples were listed in quick succession and the price was impacted somewhat. If you can, hold out and sell later ;)

Yes, I jumped in and got a cart w/ box and then several months later added the manual; total cost was about $260.

And to put it into perspective, the first one that sold went for around $600!!

Simply put it up for auction... put a nice reserve on it and see if it is met. If not... then you wait a bit for interest to peak.

I think you already have someone on this thread that holds a major interest! You'll do fine.

I would guess in good condition you should get $350 - $400, the price has dropped bigtime on this one though. I remember $600 being a good deal.

Excellent!!! I don't remember what the tray looks like, and if it did include one, it's long gone. What kind of references?

What kind of references?

Feedback threads from other forums, ebay feedback, or anything else that will help people to know that you won't take their money and run.

There is another one in this auction.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 1106430222091?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=110643022209&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

This lot is great. I bid it up to the 450, which is my absolute max. some really nice nice other CIB's too. I would suggest lowering your starting bid on the auction from 299 to like a buck just to get people bidding. Leave your Reserve on it but just get people interested. I know I sometimes can get "caught up" in the moment and bid higher than I really wanted too.

I decided to bid another 25.00 on this and got sniped at the last second. I can't believe it went for that much.

It's silly to have a reserve on an item priced close to market rates. It's expensive and turns off bidders. If you are pricing at $1, then put on a reserve. If you are putting the start at $300, then just take your 'chances'.

All the talk around here just promotes people to hype up their prices. I think $300 is a reasonable price for the buyer and seller for this item. Would you not sell yours for $300, but you would sell it for $350?

There's only one reason to hedge, and that is because you have an offer outside of eBay from somebody for more than your starting. In that case, don't get greedy, just take the offer.

All the fawning over people's scores here just breeds high expectations from the sellers. I'm not saying we should be dishonest, but I get kind of sick of people looking for a free appraisal coming here and then coming away with unrealistic expectations for the price they'd get. This thread isn't the perfect example of such, but the price hyping is tangible, and mostly comes from people with a vested interest in hyped prices.

I've passed on QQ for $250 and $275 respectively, one at a game show, the other on AA. Still not ready to buy, but I tend not to pay more than I've seen it "go for" in recent history. $300 is a very typical and fair price to ask I think. On AA you could offer it a little less since there wouldn't be any ePay fee.
