flashjazzcat #1 Posted September 30, 2010 I'm trying to find a home for my IDEa interface. It's the model with the separate PBI adapter. Board dimensions are 118x90mm (although an extra 1cm or so is required on the length for the IDE connection), height roughly 30mm with all the cables and drive. I bought a cheap project box from eBay but it's a tad small and now I'm out of cash. Anyone else cased one of these up? There are many suitable project boxes on eBay, but they tend to be rather characterless. I know candle made this: However, the project box was from some obscure Polish supplier and he can't recall the part number.
Rybags #2 Posted September 30, 2010 1010 tape drive, put SIO2SD in there too. Or maybe it's a bit small. Is there link/pic for IDEa? I'm thinking I might have to get working on an IDE interface myself soon.
+GroovyBee #3 Posted September 30, 2010 How about :- http://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/mcrh3195/box-abs-190x100x40mm/dp/1635122
flashjazzcat #4 Posted September 30, 2010 Is there link/pic for IDEa? I'm thinking I might have to get working on an IDE interface myself soon. Here's mine: This is the only link I'm aware of, although Draco has information, documentation and software here. How about :- http://uk.farnell.co...40mm/dp/1635122 Looks nice. Farnell have a minimum order though. I found something similar elsewhere, but I'll have to wait till I can afford it.
Mathy #5 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) Hello Jon How about a (shortened) SF314/354 enclosure? sincerely Mathy Edited September 30, 2010 by Mathy
+orpheuswaking #6 Posted September 30, 2010 Atari 1030 or SX212 modem (That's where both of mine will end up) - I've actually seen one inside a SX212 which is where I got my idea.
+orpheuswaking #7 Posted September 30, 2010 I got mine here http://marcinprusisz.pl/?p=p_23&sName=kmk-idea (I used google translate - but I can't get to that from work) HOWEVER I'm not sure if Pigula is still making them, you would have to ask via PM here or email him from his site... Also as far as I know the AFS (AtariFanStore) is no longer making them.
flashjazzcat #8 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) How about a (shortened) SF314/354 enclosure? Could work. I've had my eye on a couple of these for a while. Atari 1030 or SX212 modem (That's where both of mine will end up) - I've actually seen one inside a SX212 which is where I got my idea. SX212 would be ideal, but unfortunately there are rarely any for sale in the UK and shipping from the US is prohibitive. Also as far as I know the AFS (AtariFanStore) is no longer making them. I got mine as new from another AA user (in the US) who mentioned he was thinking of getting rid of it. Naturally, I was in like Flynn... Mathy #9 Posted September 30, 2010 Hello Jon SX212 would be ideal, but unfortunately there are rarely any for sale in the UK and shipping from the US is prohibitive. The SX212 IIRC used the same case as the XEP80 and the interface used with one of the ST laser printers. sincerely Mathy
+orpheuswaking #10 Posted September 30, 2010 That is true Mathy, and the XEP80 would be nicer as it has a smooth front... and yeah, shipping from here would be about $40.00 (which sucks as it's not that expensive coming the otherway)... Pity as I have a spare SX212
BigO #11 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) This company has a good range of enclosures. The "Desktop" line looks promising for something like this. http://www.pactecenc...duct-search.php Edited September 30, 2010 by BigO
nathanallan #12 Posted September 30, 2010 Ah, you are going for a "finished" look. Whenever I need an enclosure I like to re-use parts like the cases for dead cd-roms and power supplies-- there is a near endless supply of those, and you can add stuff for a bit of a steam punk look. ataridano #13 Posted October 1, 2010 How about a ST harddrive case? A little big I know but at least a matching style. If you're willing to pay shipping from the US, I have a ton of old SCSI drive cases around. Probably a little bigger and uglier than you want, but you'd get a power supply for the drive too. Would be nice. I don't think I'll be able to afford to import anything for a while, though. I always seem to get hit with VAT when stuff turns up as well. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled. I really want this thing boxed up, though. I've gotten used to the tiny MyIDE interface, which is virtually hidden at the back of the computer.
spookt #15 Posted October 1, 2010 Hi Jon I've got a couple of HP desktop SCSI drive enclosures which could be a possibility. I'll send you some pics tonight.

Sounds great: looking forward to it. Gonna have to be done on the cheap: didn't get the job I was interviewed for today.

flashjazzcat #18 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Thanks! I finally set the IDEa up tonight to see how it fares against MyIDE. It was a little picky about media, but I eventually got it going with a 2GB Peak CF card. There's not a great deal to choose between KMK/IDEa and MyIDE with the SDX driver; MyIDE is a hair's breadth quicker at reading (according to RWTEST), and quite substantially faster at writing. +orpheuswaking #19 Posted October 6, 2010 Has anyone written a menu program to allow you to use KMK/IDEa media as image space (like the MyIDE flashcart)...
+selgus #20 Posted October 7, 2010 I still say cut up a 130XE case and "fab" your own enclosure. I have two empty shells you can use, if you wanted to try. --Selgus
flashjazzcat #21 Posted October 7, 2010 I still say cut up a 130XE case and "fab" your own enclosure. I have two empty shells you can use, if you wanted to try. I have trouble visualising this (although I think I have a couple of spare cases). Can you sketch out the idea somehow?
+orpheuswaking #22 Posted October 7, 2010 I think cutting up two XE cases is BAD!!! lol... If you want to do that might as well got for a SX212 or a SF354 case, they are closer in size and would be less fabricating.
Mathy #23 Posted October 7, 2010 Hello guys And if the SF354 case isn't big enough, you could always use a MegaST case and cut that up. sincerely Mathy
