Rip pictures out of a ROM?

I know there's programs to hack arcade graphics, but is there one to rip images out of a ROM?

 

For example if you're playing something that has actual pictures in it...

It might be much easier to get to the part with the graphical screens of interest and then take a screen capture and load the result into your favourite bitmap editor.

Closest you can do is display tile sets and sprites.

I can't remember the name of the game I was playing.. it was a maze game like Pac-Man, but after you cleared a level you saw a porn pic. I got bored of playing and the pictures sucked, but I thought I could find out how many there were and how many levels the game had. I must have went through 10 or 15 pics before I quit.

 

On the one hand I love MAME, on the other hand there's something that gets boring about being able to insert a million "quarters". In the old day if you wanted to do something you had to find a quarter and pop it in the machine.
