Hey everyone. I got a Sega 32x today and i am having some problems with it.

I am trying to use a frankenstein cable to go from my genesis model 1 to the 32x. All i am doing it taking the AV out from the Genesis, putting couplers on the end, then plugging an AV cable from a Genesis 2 into the couplers and into the AV in on the 32x. When i plug everything up using this set up, it spits out a garbled rolling black and white picture, and no sound.

When i unplug the AV out from the 32x and plug the genesis 1 AV into the TV, I get sound but just the sega logo(which is something i was expecting).

Am i having this problem because of the frankenstein cable or is it something else?

I looked at pictures of the cable that's supposed to go between the units and it doesn't look like it does anything different from what i used... Am i just being stupid?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Your frankenstein cable isn't connecting. That's your issue. A black and white rolling screen with no sound is what the 32X always outputs with no patch cable. Your only solution is to buy a proper cable from somebody. You could scour eBay, or maybe ask at Sega-16. I've heard good stuff about that site.

Good luck getting that damn cable! Back when I was buying systems like a 3DO and a 32X to try them out, i had to buy THREE damn 32X's to just get ONE stupid connection cable. Someone really should make more of those things.

The mixing cable needs the R+G+B+sync lines and thus your "frankenstein" cable would only work if all those pins were connected properly.

As for audio: don't bother with that for the model 1. The ONLY way to get stereo is via the headphone jack and it WILL contain 32x audio as well, fully mixed just like the Sega CD... or you could use the RCA outs on the Sega CD with the corresponding mixing cable. (audio quality is nearly identical though -CD sound is sometimes a buit better and you can use the headphone jack to inependently control Gen/32x volume from CD volume ;))

Or, you could go the easy route and just pick up a Model 2 Genesis, then you don't need the converter cable. Unless you are missing the cable entirely, then never mind!

He's missing it entirely, hence the franken-cable.
