SlowCoder #1 Posted October 9, 2010 I have an ADAM that was missing all the "important" parts, such as controllers and games. I bought a CV really cheap on eBay because it had controllers and a few carts so I could finish testing the functionality of the ADAM. I cleaned the CV controllers up and plugged them in. Initially I got the "Turn off your system before inserting games" message, which I guess means it couldn't see the carts that were plugged in. I cleaned up the cart slot contacts, and it finally came to life! Oh, me! It's been a while since I played Donkey Kong on that system. Forgot how cool that game was. Now I get to look forward to the bigger things on my list ... Find me a nice expensive pair of ADAM (beige) controllers, the multi-cart, and the SD drive. From that point, I'll be one really happy camper. Does anyone have about $200 I can borrow? Now for the CV. What to do with it? Well, it's all cleaned up and ready to play, as long as it works when I get the power supply. If it works, I suppose I'll store it for now, as I'm more interested in the ADAM. If it doesn't work, I suppose I'll sell for parts. Other ideas?

Guess you can say in this day and age, some 28 years after all these items were manufactured, it's always a good idea to keep a backup especially since you are going to be investing more money into the system by buying the additional items you mentioned and then, of course, others items you haven't considered yet or that haven't been released yet. nathanallan #3 Posted October 9, 2010 Excellent that you got it running like you wanted! Agreed with NIAD, keep it as a backup, you never know, this stuff is all aging. Plan on making pictures or maybe a demo video for it? I know I would if nothing else bragging rights:)
SlowCoder #4 Posted October 9, 2010 Plan on making pictures or maybe a demo video for it? I know I would if nothing else bragging rights:) I hadn't planned to post pics, as I don't consider my stuff anything special compared to others. But since you asked : The CV: All shiney clean. If it doesn't work, it'll make a nice doorstop. The ADAM: The keyboard is currently boasting one of the CV controller. Soon I hope there will be a beige one in its place. The full system. The covers here are the only ones I've ever seen. Did they come as part of the ADAM package, or were they extra?

The covers here are the only ones I've ever seen. Did they come as part of the ADAM package, or were they extra? The covers were made by Classic Covers and were available for purchase at many stores that carried the CV and ADAM and then later through mail-order companies or directly from Classic Covers. Does anyone know if Classic Covers is still in business? I did a search on them and got a lot of other sites and covers for other items. I wish I could remember the state they were located in and the ladies name that used to answer the phone... getting old and and losing my mind! BTW, the systems look immaculate after all these years... just a little discoloration on the keybaord spacebar which it seems is quite normal from other system pics I have seen. His wife makes really nice looking covers for many classic systems. He is a good guy to deal with, I made a trade with him recently.

SlowCoder #9 Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Did a little research and Classic Covers was a division of Omicron Industries in Salt Lake City, Utah. So ... I accidentally ran into a matching cover for my CV on eBay, but I think they're asking way too much ... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220634634429 It would be perfect though. Switching subjects a little ... Got my CV power supply tonight. Plugged it in and it's up and running too. Edited October 12, 2010 by SlowCoder

SlowCoder #11 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) It's been a few months since I posted on this necro-ed thread. This post is just a self-gratification update, so you can ignore if you want. With help from jblenkle (thank you ), I obtained some new tapes and was able to test my DDP drive. It works, and I'm thrilled! My ADAM is now back to the point it was when I used it years ago. Eventually I think I'll look for a 2nd DDP drive. Edited January 8, 2011 by SlowCoder

Yurkie #19 Posted January 10, 2011 Yeah, that is a bummer. Wonder if that is an aftermarket deal. AX Maybe they didn't have one for the keyboard and the old lady made one on the sewing machine.
NIAD #20 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Yeah, that is a bummer. Wonder if that is an aftermarket deal. AX Maybe they didn't have one for the keyboard and the old lady made one on the sewing machine. Classic Covers made one for the keyboard as well with the ADAM Logo on it, so the one shown on eBay came from somewhere else or was custom made. Well Ax, looks like we are gonna butt heads on this one. I saw it a couple days ago when it first went up and was hoping no one else would notice it. And to think, I had two sets for the Stand-Alone ADAM and 1 for the Exp. Mod. ADAM back in the day, not to mention a large stock of them that we used to sell through our mail-order all nicely boxed-up. What drove me nuts was when people would open the box and take them out to look at since I could never get them back in the box neatly... kinda like a then and now of Kirsty Allie! If you're referring to mine, I wish it was mint too. I'd say it's condition is lightly used and in excellent condition. I spent a lot of time getting it back in that condition. But it's out of its box and sat in an attic for almost 25 years and the keyboard spacebar is discolored. I am proud to have it.
