Madaracs #1 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Below are some photos from the mod I completed yesterday with a friend of mine on the ColecoVision Expansion Module #2. I went to Unique Thrift Store in Crystal, MN to get some old parts and a 6V AC Adapter. We ended up cannibalizing a portable CD player for the mini-plug interface ($1.40) and found a Bell phone charger with a mini plug that ran 6V ($2.99). 2+ hours later we had de-soldered, soldered and mounted a miniplug power interface to the Expansion Module as well as adding a vintage looking lamp to the dash to show that the power was running. It also gave us opportunity to troubleshoot a new test monitor I had purchased and clean up this particular module as it had some battery corrosion and hadn't really been tested. We tested out Turbo while we were at it... and it was quite fun. Like a dummy I forgot to take a photo of the miniplug mount on the back. So I'll do that later. S1500 #3 Posted October 11, 2010 Awesome. I did that with a Famiclone as well. The only thing you then need is a short extension cord if your power supply is a wall-wart(112% that it is).

That's when these come in handy. Ooh I like that. I just remember buying a handful of single-ones at IKEA & using them whenever the need calls. Really, the wall-wart thing is a cost cutting measure by companies I know, but it's a big pain in the ass. Not only that, I swear electronics manufacturers pay extra to make sure the product it plugs into is never EVER mentioned on the off-the-shelf power supply. Heaven help you if you mix them up. I'm now resorting to a piece of masking tape & labeling them.

The thing I love about it though is the gasps that it invokes when you pull it out to plug it in. It's also one of the few power bricks to have a support stand/nub in attempt to keep it at a 90 degree angle when plugged into the outlet so it doesn't end up pulling itself out of the wall. Madaracs #8 Posted October 11, 2010 Awesome. It was suggested at work I add a key switch. I think I might do that. So you have to "start the car" to turn it on.
NIAD #9 Posted October 11, 2010 Awesome. It was suggested at work I add a key switch. I think I might do that. So you have to "start the car" to turn it on. Nice job Madaracs! I actually took the LAZY way out of using 4 C-batteries and bought a Coleco Perma-Power Battery Eliminator last week. The power light is a very nice addition and adding a key switch would be the super cool. Could always raid one of those toddler toys for a plastic one, unless of course you want the real deal. They're not as nice as say... an Alco branded one, but they look appropriately toy-like and vintage for the Module. I think one of these will do nicely. Yurkie #14 Posted October 19, 2010 Did you get the key cylinder installed Madaracs?
Madaracs #15 Posted October 19, 2010 Did you get the key cylinder installed Madaracs? They haven't arrived yet. They're coming from China. I haven't figured out a good spot for it yet either. There isn't much space left on the dash... it may have to sit under the steering wheel out of sight. Or I may mount it on the side. Unfortunately with the pedal cavity I'm limited to where the switch can go. I don't want to mount it on the left as a matter of principle... but we'll see... Murph74 #16 Posted October 19, 2010 Awesome stuff, Madaracs! For the power splitter, I like these: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/power-solutions/2-outlets-sps1020a_17/prd/ They carry them for liek $3 at my local Wal Mart... Just another option!
psquare75 #17 Posted October 19, 2010 What about one of those "push to start" buttons the ricer kids use on their racecar Hondas?

And those are sweet. I like the pass through tap. That could help me keep things a little better organized.
Madaracs #19 Posted October 20, 2010 What about one of those "push to start" buttons the ricer kids use on their racecar Hondas? That's a good idea too. I have a second turbo module. I might do something similar with that one too. Maybe I'll put a toggle start switch on that one.
Madaracs #20 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) Hmm DOn't know why this isn't working. Edited November 7, 2010 by Madaracs
Yurkie #21 Posted November 7, 2010 Hmm DOn't know why this isn't working. You must have deleted your Youtube link. I saw your video last night with the key cylinder installed. Too bad it doesn't rotate clockwise. Is there a way to change the rotation direction? Edit: I noticed you started another thread.
