Tinman #1 Posted October 13, 2010 Not sure if anyone else watches this show, but on Raising Hope last night on Fox, one of the characters was playing Pitfall! on an Atari 2600. You can't tell from the screenshot I grabbed, but there were some other carts on the table next to the 2600 as well. I couldn't make out which ones they were. I know it was meant to be funny, but still it's cool to see the classics show up here and there...

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure which game the sound was from although it clearly wasn't Pitfall! Also, the guy "playing" it clearly wasn't used to the Atari joystick because he kept mashing his thumb on top of the joystick handle as if there was a button there, completely ignoring the big red button next to the stick. CincYnoTi #4 Posted October 13, 2010 That's funny because I heard & recognized the sound, but didn't see Pitfall on the screen. Maybe I was looking at something else when the scene went by.
+thegoldenband #5 Posted October 13, 2010 If I'm not mistaken, the sound was from 2600 Donkey Kong, however. I've noticed that a LOT of shows have used the 2600 Donkey Kong sounds, either as a trope for "old video games" or for the Atari 2600 in general. I wonder if it was featured on a stock sound effects/sound library CD?
CincYnoTi #6 Posted October 13, 2010 I wonder...could this be some sort of homage to his terminator character? The actor Garret Dillahunt played the terminator John Henry in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles So we can imagine the robotic computer system John Henry imagining himself to be Pitfall Harry on the Atari Video Computer System. Or maybe the code for Pitfall evolves into Skynet.
