what is this wire for inside the colecovision?

I have opened a few colecovisions now and only one has had this wire running from the front of the board to the rf box. What is this for? I was having trouble with my newest colecovision and when I clipped this wire the system started working properly. Here is a pic of what I am talking about. I borrowed it from someone's guide for disassembly.

that's what I thought too. Weird that it would interfere with the picture though.

Was it attached to the the RF box? Maybe another component in the RF box was touching the case and shorting?

That cable grounds the rf box to the motherboard. If you cut it and it works, I say you got lucky and bumped something making a connection. Eliminating a ground is not a good idea, nor should it ever be a repair technique. All the grounds on the motherboard make contact with the metal shielding and prevent interference.

Later revisions removed it and relied on the solder connection between the top plate and the mainboard.

I do notice that the systems that have that ground wire have a clearer picture. But most people wouldn't notice. I like the ground wire because if I dismantle the ColecoVision for modding, I hate trying to solder the top shielding-plate to the mainboard. It's a real pain in the butt. Then again, Coleco probably never meant for the thing to be taken apart.
