SlowCoder #1 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) I have found that there are actually 4 treasures to every find. Especially when dealing with older retro stuff. 1. Finding the package at the door. Follows is the anticipation of opening the box, and wondering if it works. 2. Plugging it in to find it does work! I usually do this first so I won't waste my time on the next treasure ... though I've been really lucky so far (KNOCKS REALLY HARD ON WOOD!) 3. Most of my finds have been in real need of a cleanup. So for me,working the transformation from dust, spiderweb and whatever else you can imagine, to clean and spiffy, is the third treasure. 4. Sitting down with your spiffed up, working find is the 4th. Enjoying your evening's work, playing with it. Edited October 22, 2010 by SlowCoder
TwinChargers #2 Posted October 22, 2010 I'd say that the greater treasure is when you have found the item out in the wild. Scouring the internet makes it far too simple to find whatever you may desire, and while that is convienent and nice, finding a special something at a local thrift shop or garage sale at a great price to boot is a more rewarding treasure. Perhaps that and the unknown of what you'll find is what will always make physically searching for treasures more enjoyable IMO.

fiddlepaddle #4 Posted October 22, 2010 1. driving to the thrift store wondering what you might find 2. finding something great at the thrift store instead of what you thought you might find 3. figuring out what parts you still need, and figuring out how to work around it 4. proudly carrying bags in from the car and dumping them on the kitchen table to brag about to the Mrs. 5. cleaning it up and seeing the transformation to sparkling showpiece 6. getting it operational 7. finding games and accessories 8. thinking you've figured it all out and discovering something unexpectedly wondrous.

You forgot 4.5: Realizing again that you were fortunate enough to end up with a Mrs. who at least fakes passable interest enough to listen to what it is, how much it was worth, how much you paid, and why your life is now better because of it. She then gives you a kiss to congratulate you and tells you when the stuff has to be off the table for the supper she is cooking.

No, but apparently we married similar women. We're both lucky I guess, they are definitely R10.

Listened to her story about her first console... the Intellivision... and her favorite game on it was Pitfall... after I regained consciousness again, I quickly married her before she was snapped up by a collector
