mattbuc16 #1 Posted October 22, 2010 I bought a male RF to female coax video adapter because the RF cable on a used unit I just picked up was cut in half. Problem is, the prong on the adapter seems a little long. I can't get a good connection unlesss I push it pretty hard. Second I let go, because I believe it was hitting the board, the reception goes to crud. I'm gonna just try a different RCA cable I might have laying around and then hook a female RCA to coax adapter to that, tomorrow (can't wake girlfriend up now digging around for cables). Regardless, I was curious to know if I have any other options as far as my first solution goes. The old RF cable hada real short prong on it. Thanks, Matt
scogey #2 Posted October 22, 2010 Yeah...all the new ones have a longer prong than the original ones back in the day...I noticed this when I was taking a cord out of a non working unit and installing it in a working unit....is the prong length causing the outer ring not to connectto the female end?....If so I wonder if you could lop off 1/8" off the prong....allowing it to go all the way in (John Wayne Bobbit thinks this is a bad idea)....don't know if this would work...but it's my first thought

I thought about lopping off prong, too, but don't see how that's possible.
A.J. Franzman #4 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Cutting off the center prong is a possible solution, but be careful: most of them are made of thin sheet metal, so you need to use something like a Dremel cut-off wheel to do it without mangling it. Also, in many consoles the molded part of the plug needs to be very short like the original so the cable can make an immediate 90 degree turn, else the case will not close properly.
