Was this ever ported and released to the 8-bit computer? I'd love to have a chance to play it without owning one of those huge clunky 5200's with their awkward video interfaces.

Not that I know of... some people doing stuff on 5200 just want nothing to do with the computer scene.

 

But on the other hand, witholding from the computer makes the chance of the game being pirated somewhat less.

If they'd intended for everyone to be able to play it, they'd have released a ROM image.

 

By copying it against the programmer's wishes, all you'd accomplish is helping to kill new program development.

I'd be quite happy to pay for XL/XE compatable XEX image. Quite happy indeed!!!

It was a while back but I think a demo version did come out.

 

As much as you and others would pay for an XEX, you'd probably be outnumbered 20:1 by others that wouldn't.

 

Also, I think there's some arrangement with Atari that gave them permission to use the name - it could be that it came with the proviso of a 5200 only release.

Yes, an Atari 8-bit version. It would take significantly more work to port this to another platform entirely.

 

Atari 8-bit fans are not going to be disappointed.

Put me down for "excited," as well. I would *much* rather buy this game than an entire clunky 5200 system to play it, which [while ridiculous] was sort of in the back of my mind. One Best Gold 5200 joystick's money alone will likely buy the game! :)

I'd consider a 5200 if there is an easy to install S-Video MOD.
