Error Codes

Hi Stephen,

Can you tell me what it is ?

gr. marco

It is a rather large PCB which is labeled "PBI tester", part # "CA026033-001". The back of the PCB has "GX-211-VO", under that is "2486", and a different part # "C026032".

It is used to test various signals which are present on the cart + ECI port of the 130XE. I will edit this post with two pics. I am looking for the manual to scan the error codes. When I get more time I will scan the entire manual. This is everything except the blank back cover, and the 3 foldouts. I have to diagnose a scanner issue, and I will also have to completely redo all labels on the component sheet by hand, because they are illegible. Maybe this weekend.

Apologies for the crap quality. It's partly my scanner, but the actual manual is like a 5th generation photocopy of a shitty printout

@Stephen: Do you find this item to be very useful in practice for diagnostics?

Well, I have never diagnosed and fixed a broken unit yet, so I cannot say. This will soon change however, as I have a PAL 130XE which will not boot when a cart is installed. I will start out by running it with this test cart in place.

I see. I would be interested to know how it works out for you, as I was contemplating purchasing one of these. I also have one problem 130XE lying around.

Hi Stephen,

Because I work on a remake of this ancient PBI tester in a new small form, I wonder if you ever use this the last 10 years? to do some repair or anything.

I really don't know if it worth it, but I say to give it a try and order some boards just to see if it works.

This time except from the CPLD and its power supply, I designed all the other parts using through hole components, as to be possible to give it as a kit also. With that way also look more retro than using only smd components.

Anyway let's see…

Wow - this is embarrassing.  Not only do I not recall if I ever fixed the machine I referred to earlier, but I also have been unable since I moved to this new house (5.5 years ago) to find the test PCB I mentioned.  I think I still have 4 or 5 massive rubbermaid totes up in the attic above my garage to go through.  This won't happen anytime soon - it's averaging 32F and I also have to push a car out of the garage to get up there.

I know is an old topic but I think what I want to show is better to place here, because of background on this thread.

Given the chance in the midst of the pandemic and having some components on the shelf as stock from the past, finally I did a remake of the original PBI Tester board on a small pcb, based around one ComplexProgrammableLogicDevice.

It look to work good on my Atari 65XE, like the original one which was manufactured from Atari.

I decided also to add one more option in order that someone can have a more complete picture of the state of the device to be checked.  A full 128 k game. On pictures seen the Pitfall II.

I will make some complete devices in the next days, so if someone is hungry for one,? let me know with pm.

Very nice demo!

Thanks that you share the video. I look forward to see your "test tool" in this little device.  ?

Where can I find this demo?

it was a pleasure, about my tool I made it work, but it has some details since the standard cartridge can not turn off the cartridge port and this affects the correct RAM detection. ?

Here I share with you rom of the demo.DemoCart.rom

As I had some materials I did the SIO testing that comes out in the manual and it really works, I eliminated the errors 34, 35 and 36 that the diagnostic program marks when it runs the test of the ports.

I hope in the future to make the other cable for the joysticks.?
