Benzman66 Posted October 27, 2010 Share Posted October 27, 2010 Was playing around with a few sixers today and noticed the one switchboard did not produce as sharp of picture as the other switchboards, This was after I tried the "problem" switchboard on the other 5 "brains". Adjusting the RF box of course sharpens it a little, but too much blurs it. Does anyone know if any of the other components near the RF box could make a difference or not in producing a better/sharper picture? Thanks. P.S. tetrode kink Posted October 28, 2010 Share Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) With my extremely limited Atari tech experience stipulated, I've never seen two RF modulators that produced the same signal. RF being a dark art and all, maybe that one is just a little "off" in one or more possible infinite combination of factors. I was wondering more if it had anything to do with the caps/resistors? that are mounted on the piece extending from the rf box or the ones that are on the switchboard under the right difficulty switch. A.J. Franzman Posted October 29, 2010 Share Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) I would change out both of the electrolytic capacitors on the switch board. Also, Atari had quality control problems with some glass-bodied capacitors, but I don't know if any of those were installed in six-switchers. Without magnification, they look almost exactly like a small-signal diode, but without a stripe to denote the cathode, and of course the silkscreen legend on the board will identify them as "C###" instead of "D###". zylon Posted October 29, 2010 Share Posted October 29, 2010 I've run into some 6er boards that had a faulty female connector. They only worked right if constant pressure was applied.
