Happy Discovery Cart and Mac Disks

Recommended Posts

So Im trying to format an 800k Mac disk. I have a Discovery cart and from what I can tell the only utility this has for Mac disks is to convert them from Mac->Magic/Spectre format.

Anyone know of a way to use the Disocvery cart to format a disk in Mac format? I know the GCR can do this, however that I dont own ;)

Only if you had the version of the HDC (Happy discovery cart) that had the space to fit mac roms...or was it, space to fit the spectre gcr emulator, can't remember which (as well as the appropriate mac disk connector) i think i may have had that version, but sold it years ago

I'm not too familiar with the DC/MAC stuff, but I don't think the DC has software for formatting a disk. As you are saying, it can convert from/to Magic Sac disks.

It is not a hardware limitation of the DC, just a software one. If you could get an ST/MSA image of a Magic Sac empty formatted disk, then you could write it to floppy and convert it with the DC.

Correct ijor - the DC cannot format a Mac disk - it can only convert it to Spectre/Magic format.

I was hoping the Spectre software could somehow use the DC to format in Mac mode but it only works (rightly so) with the GCR to format in Mac.
