use MBX Joystick on other games too?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Is it possible to use the MBX extension and its joystick on non MBX games too?

From reading about the mbx, the joystick seems more handy, even with standard functions (all directions and fire) only.

Is the MBX Speech synthesizer limited to MBX games?

I love my MBX joystick.... Never tried it on non-MBX games... Someone smarter than I am will respond to this... But most are in Chicago at the Faire this week... You may be S-O-L til Monday. :)

I just tried my MBX stick directly on the TI to see, and it DOES NOT work. I also tried it with an Atari WICO controller adapter and it also DOES NOT work. Similarly, you can't use TI joysticks (or Wicos, etc) when they're plugged directly into the MBX unit.

Thanks for trying out.

I actually meant using the complete MBX setup (mbx keypad + joystick attached) while playing Parsec for example and I am wondering if I could use the joystick to give the following commands: up, down, left, right, fire.

Ok I guess I misunderstood you. I have not tried that before. I'm out of town til Saturday night, but I can try that for you when I get back.. unless someone else gets to checking it before me. Otherwise I will try and give you the results on Sunday.

Check out post 15 on this thread:

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/172843-the-mbx-expansion-system/

to see the work Barry Boone did to enable programmers in Extended Basic to use the facilities of the MBX Games Unit.

Never forget: Only plug the MBX unit into your consoe when the console is powered off. It is not hot pluggable.

regards

Stephen
