so_tough! #1 Posted November 7, 2010 The neo was always a system that I wanted as a kid(I had never played one, only read about them in magazines), I picked one up on ebay a few years ago. Almost instantly I was feeling "buyers remorse". A few days earlier my 7800 arrived and I was having much more fun playing my 7800 than the neo. Anyway a few months later I find a neo cd online for a cheap price, I pick it up with the intention that I can buy much cheaper games. Well this is not making me enjoy the neo more, I just can't get into this system. They sit in my wardrobe gathering dust. Maybe someone here can have some fun with them. I'm opened minded about what I'll swap for...

so_tough! #3 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) What do you want for them? I'm negotiating with a few people right now, what do you have? Edited November 7, 2010 by so_tough!
+save2600 #4 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) Pretty tricky comparing a 7800 to a Neo*Geo, but I think I too would prefer Atari in the long run over it actually. Thing is, what games do you have for it? Neo*Geo excels in its sports, fighting and shooting games. The system and its library isn't about depth of play really - more just a really slick and quick arcade experience. If I had a Neo*Geo today (besides the PS2 compilation that is), I'd say these would be must haves: Baseball Stars I & II King of the Monsters I & II Viewpoint Last Resort NAM 1975 Ghost Pilots Metal Slug (any of 'em, they all seem the same to me) Windjammers Top Players Golf Andro Dunos Burning Fight Crossed Swords (don't get too excited by the title, it's a medieval game, not porn lol) League Bowling Mutation Nation Riding Hero Super Dodge Ball ...course there's some redundancy here, but that's Neo*Geo for you with their umpteen vs. fighter sequels! lol Edited November 7, 2010 by save2600

Nice video there Cebus! I have a handful of that cheesy amateur soft porn from this box set of 20 movies I accidentally bought, thinking they were going to B-horrors. lmao

I'm not comparing them, only saying I find the 7800 much more fun,I find the Jag more fun too! The pc engine, megadrive, they are much more fun as well The only beat em up on the neo which is quite enjoyable that I've played is world heroes 2 jet. I don't like the samurai showdown games or the fatal fury games. I've tried to like this system, I really have. I dig them out now and again and ten minutes later put them in the wardrobe again. Viewpoint is ok, over rated in my opinion and very tough. Actually I think a lot of neo games are tough. Riding Hero is ok, but in my opinion super burnout on the jag is much much better. I enjoyed street fighter 2 , but the snk fighters seem to play a lot different. Overall I think the games lack depth, it's hard to put my finger on it and I don't want to put anyone off, especially when I'm trying to get rid of them , but this system was a total let down for me. I love shoot em ups, but the megadrive and pc engine more than cater for them. One game I always wanted for the neo was puzzle bobble, but that's available on other systems. Super sidekicks series is fun, but is it any better than other football games on other systems? Nope.
+save2600 #9 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) Okay, so you've got a real good handle on what the Neo*Geo is mostly about: tough games (button mashers to say the least) with very few levels comparatively. See, that's the arcade way of doing things. Heck, I remember most of the Neo*Geo games even being on a timer. You'd pop your quarter in, only to get a few innings, a few minutes or whatever. Insert more coinage to play longer. Neo*Geo definitely has its following and it's a great system for those of us with shorter attention spans these days too. You won't have any trouble trading or selling your systems to be sure. Oh - about enjoying the Neo*Geo CD unit... yeah, what a big flop that turned out to be. A very cool collectible today for sure - but load times and then the fact that the games ported to CD were not always that much cheaper. I remember them retailing at $70-$120, if/when you even found 'em - what a scam. Availability of software and hardware also - how embarrassing SNK! How could you blow what should/could have been a great console and follow up to your arcade system?!? This stuff isn't just hindsight. We knew back then, what a schlocky job some of these companies were doing to their own systems Edited November 7, 2010 by save2600
