christianscott #8 Posted December 3, 2002 i was putting together this series of collection pictures for a website, i never saw the forest for the trees until i had them all on the futon. normally they serve as a visual garnish to the cart shelves, when you look at them like that it would seem i've got more than a few. i started out by finding the donkey kong tabletop, then a friend gave me the galaxian so i decieded to get all the coleco tabletops. so once i had those the q*bert fit right in and i wanted to get all the games based on arcade titles, then i took a liking to certain companies and tried to complete their sets. the football, mattel and tandy games just fell into my hands at flea markets. now i've taken a liking to LCD games where as before it was LED and VFD only, theres really no end to it now. my collection pales next to emerald r's, the guy who sets up that amazing display every year at philly classic. i know of a few other collectors thru ebay like bayniac!, omega man and chickeneater but you never seen them on any msg boards. handheld collecting is a lot of fun and looks good in your gameroom, i think its the "forgotten" side of classic gaming. i dont have any plans to pick up a gp32, wonderswan etc..for the time being i'm sticking to US releases only. as for what its all worth, you might need that book mentioned above. the most expensive game there would be the turbo express, which is around $100, the most expensive tabletop would be mario's cement factory or popeye which often sell for over $60 ea. most of the games can be scored off ebay for under $20. Vectrex-Atari #10 Posted December 3, 2002 I was wondering: My father gave me his "Battlestar Galatica" Held held game (Mattel electronics, 1978) a few year back. Its in OK shape and plays excellent. How much is something like that worth?

z28in82 #14 Posted December 4, 2002 christianscott I have a question you have what looks like a 2 player Baseball game 2 handhelds above the LYNX. I was wondering #1 if it ever came in black? (with a removable controll for the pitcher) #2 what the name of it is? #3 how easy something like that is to find? Why I ask, is because I swear I remember playing a game that fit that description in the early 80's(was my Godfather's) and have seen no trace of the thing in 15 or so years and can't find anything that resembles it. Since you seem to be a hand held enthusiast I thought who better to ask. Thanks for any advice/help

Since you seem to be a hand held enthusiast I thought who better to ask. Thanks for any advice/help Well as a fellow handheld freak myself I'll take a stab at your question That's ENTEX Baseball 2 in the picture. There were lots of similar looking baseball handhelds but assuming that's the same brand as yours, the black one you had was probably either Entex Baseball 1 or 3 (there were three). They all had a removable control for the pitches. Here is a page that shows them all: http://users2.ev1.net/~rik1138/Entex/BaseB.htm so check and see if one matches what you remember As far as not seeing a trace of them. They're probably one of the easier items to find on Ebay. I've seen them go from 2 bucks to 20 or more for a mint/boxed version. Generally they go for around 5-15 dollars loose/boxed on ebay. Matter of fact, here are some available now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1921474837 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1922420577 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1922788741 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1922814862 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1923091930 see? lots! z28in82 #17 Posted December 4, 2002 I see I stand corrected. Thanks NE146 it is actually version 1 that I remember, now I will have to track one down and apparently they are rather common on epay, maybe I was just looking in the wrong catagory or something
joeybastard #18 Posted December 4, 2002 Beautiful collection! Seeing it makes me want to go digging thru my mothers attic. When I was a kid (and those games were new)my grandmother would get me 1 or 2 of them for Xmas and my birthday. At one point I probably had about half of what you have pictured. I know I never threw them out so they might be packed away. Guess I have some exploring to do....
christianscott #19 Posted December 4, 2002 the baseball handheld you're referring to, the one near the lynx is actually a SEARS baseball 2, if you look up a bit and on the left side of the picture you'll see the actual ENTEX baseball 2 (between wildfire pinball and invader from space). they are of course the same game with a few cosmetic changes. entex is perhaps the king of classic handheld companies, their games were always well built and fun to play. the managed to capture the play feel of some great arcade titles such as turtles, stargate, defender, galaxian, pac man, super cobra and more. if ayones just getting into classic handheld collecting go for the entex games, you'll actually want to play them. anyways back to the point here, yes entex did lots of funny color changes, relabels and so on. if you study the picture closely you'll notice that there are two entex space invaders, one in black and one in gray. a lot of collectors assume that the baseball 2, pac man 2 and so on refer to the game being the second in a series when it really denotes "2" players, as in two sets of controls to be used at once. battlestar galactica is a good find, one of the harder mattels to get since its popular with game people and sci-fi people. by itself with no box, it could fetch over $25 on ebay. i have checked out that electronic plastic book, at least on their website and it looks like great, although its more of a picture book than a collecting guide, either way the $44 + shipping price is pretty steep. i find most of what i want to know on a few good sites like miniarcade.com and tomorrowsheros. for now its nice quiet hobby without a large number of monster bidders, anyone can get in and start a collection, you can even find a lot of games at thrift toy sections. i just hope it never gets as over inflated as the game and watch scene, thats just nuts.
