OldAtarian #1 Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) Does anyone else own one of these? I've had one since they first came out. Are they really rare? Does anyone know if the planned 286 and 386SX upgrades ever materialized? Edited November 9, 2010 by OldAtarian
Goochman #2 Posted November 10, 2010 I have the AT-Speed, was that a 286 or 8088?
The Usotsuki #3 Posted November 10, 2010 Based on the "AT" in the name, I'm guessing 286.
Shredder11 #4 Posted November 11, 2010 I've got a Vortex ATonce Intel 286 interface, along with the adapter to fit to my STE. I just need to get something with 64 pins to mount it over the CPU, at least I think so; might need to read the instructions again.

Sadly, I don't think I could justify what one would cost now, because it'd be just a curiosity. Back then, I'd have used it for real work.
+remowilliams #6 Posted November 12, 2010 Does anyone else own one of these? The Talon Supercharger? I've got one, it's pretty cool. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/143019-talon-supercharger/

Sadly, I don't think I could justify what one would cost now, because it'd be just a curiosity. Back then, I'd have used it for real work. I bought mine for £17 or $27 (Canadian), so it was very cheap. Also bear in mind that you can use Ebay to have a bit of fun with things you wished for back in the day, and then sell it back on Ebay to someone else who will probably do the same. Shredder11 #9 Posted November 12, 2010 Yep a tidy and versatile ST setup for sure, which would have been the envy of many a user back then; I mean, how many people would have a computer that could be three in one in hardware....MAC, PC and ST!
Goochman #10 Posted November 12, 2010 Yep a tidy and versatile ST setup for sure, which would have been the envy of many a user back then; I mean, how many people would have a computer that could be three in one in hardware....MAC, PC and ST! I wrote a college paper on the efficiencies on having an Atari ST w/Spectre and a 286 board. I got an 'A' on the paper and the teacher asked why places weren't looking at this solution (we had Macs and PCs in the computer lab) - I told him that honestly though a good value, Atari wasnt big enough to really support this model in the US

I've got one, it's pretty cool. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/143019-talon-supercharger/ Have you tried running Windows on it yet? I heard you can run Windows 286 and possibly Windows 3.0 on it because the NEC V30 is fully 16-bit.
The Usotsuki #13 Posted November 13, 2010 You can run Windows *3.0* on any old 8088.
wongck #14 Posted November 29, 2010 How about windows 3.11? That is still 16 bits.
OldAtarian #15 Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) How about windows 3.11? That is still 16 bits. 3.1x requires a 286, I believe, because it uses protected memory. The 8088/8086 can't do that. Edited November 29, 2010 by OldAtarian
+remowilliams #16 Posted November 29, 2010 Thanks for linking that. Did Talon ever come out with the VGA option? Not that I am aware of. Have you tried running Windows on it yet? I heard you can run Windows 286 and possibly Windows 3.0 on it because the NEC V30 is fully 16-bit. Oddly, that's one thing I never got around to trying. majere #18 Posted November 30, 2010 Does anyone else own one of these? I've had one since they first came out. Are they really rare? I have one. But the only think I remember of it is to run ms-dos. And run programs like basic by one external 5 1/4 floppy drive Now I have the two things stored.
