TG16 CD case variation question

Recommended Posts

Any TG16 collectors who could help me with a question ?

I just recently got a boxed Ninja Spirit TG16 Game and noticed inside the box

the CD case does not have the usuall plastic clip that holds the HuCard in place ?

not only does it not have one there are no holes that it would snap into, the back

part of the CD Case does however have the molded raised area that keeps the HuCard

from moving around. Also there is NO edge label on the Case (never had one, no old glue)

I guess I am asking is this a normal late release that maybe they started leaving out

these parts to save money ?

Thanks to anyone in advance that can answer this question for me

Most of the ones I own have the plastic clip that you referred to. But I do have one (Keith Courage) that, instead of the clip, has a round blob of sticky substance that the plastic Hu-card sleeve sticks to that keeps it in place. This is the original case that the game was in when it came with my TurboGrafx. So maybe there were other variations? Maybe the Keith Courage was different because it was the pack-in game and had a different production line?

It could also be that someone found a way to order third party replacement cases and they don't have the clip.

(Just counted, 14 cases with plastic clip, 1 with glue dot.)

Also, just noticed that the Keith Courage case has ridges on the side where it opens, near the middle. The other cases are all smooth in this area.

Yup Thats exactly like the one I have, I had not noticed the thumb ridges on the front edge but mine

also has them as well, Also has the round sticky spot. Mine came in the cardboard box so I am 99% sure it

came that way. I am guessing these were late products that were probably produced for cost cutting reasons

Oh does yours have the end label on the case, Mine does not and again I am 99% sure it never did

Thanks for your response it helps to convince me it was really released that way

Yep, didn't take a picture of it, but it does have an end label. But one thing I did notice, while surfing through ebay, it seems like the PC Engine cases are like this, and the TurboGrafx ones have the plastic clip. Perhaps that is the reason. Maybe the Keith Courage one is based on the PC Engine case and you have one of those. No idea about the end label though.

Here's a link to one of the PC Engine games on Ebay that shows the inside of the case.

That is most definitely a PC Engine case. Normally PC Engine HuCards came with a strip of foam that you'd place on top of the HuCard to keep it from moving around inside the case.

Well that makes sense it must of somehow/somewhere been put into a PC Engine case?

Thanks for the response's I think its now clear as to How/why its different
