Gabriel #1 Posted November 13, 2010 Does anyone know of a good standard item which would make an acceptable dual joystick holder for Space Dungeon and Robotron? My chances of crafting one are practically nil, so it would be nice to find something that's the right size and shape that would work. Years ago, I used a McDonalds drink tray for a while. That worked pretty well until it fell apart.

Gabriel #3 Posted November 14, 2010 Buy the one that Atari sold. They are not that expensive. Where can I get one? It certainly hasn't been an all consuming quest, but I've never found any available. Even when checking out Robotron and Space Dungeon games which are advertised as "complete in package" I get told that the controller holder is not present. I don't see one at present but I bought mine from 4Jays (http://4jays.net/store//index.html). I'd either send them an email asking to keep you in mind (I believe they used to keep waiting lists) or just keep an eye on the 5200 section of the website. OldAtarian #6 Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) It makes me wonder with all the loose Space Dungeon cartridges out there, what the hell did happen to the joystick holders that came with them? It's as big a mystery as to why every Omega Race cartridge doesn't come with the special controller grip that can't be used for any other game. Why would they get separated at all is the point. kamakazi #8 Posted November 16, 2010 You might try contacting these places: Collector's Cards and Games My Atari Shoot them an email. There are many times where they might have items that they just don't have the time to put on their websites. It never hurts to ask.
Gabriel #9 Posted November 23, 2010 DensB68 hooked me up. I have to say that Space Dungeon plays infinitely better with a stable mount for the sticks. It makes me wonder with all the loose Space Dungeon cartridges out there, what the hell did happen to the joystick holders that came with them? This. Neither of the titles which came with the controller holder were rare. At best, Space Dungeon was uncommon. AFAIK, both games were were only sold with the controller holder, so there are no variant packages without the hunk of plastic. So where did all those little controller brackets go? Did people open up the package, look at the device, and then say, "Must just be packing material." before tossing it in the garbage?

The controllers snap in there tight too. I got mine in a lot of a bunch of broken controllers and 2 holder. All the controllers had heavy wear tracks from being slid in and out of the holders. It wouldn't suprise me at all if many of these cracked over time.

I dunno if this would be a viable option for building this holder? http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/1216?osCsid=8756bafa4271028b87a93bfe4b0f9662 This is a 3d printer, looks promising an definitively affordable for what it does, and if u read up on it this csn be used for projects other then this one. 0078265317 #14 Posted January 14, 2011 Complete with holder. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 300512809967 Or just the holder. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 260711059858 The complete ends in 6 hours so bid now if you wish before its gone. And the holder ends on the 20th. As for the plank and rubber bands how about velcro instead.

Wow, I just picked up a complete boxed Space Dungeon a couple weeks ago for about $30.00 including shipping on Atari2600.com. Geotrick #16 Posted January 30, 2011 One option I don't think any one has mentioned yet is Velcro. Specifically industrial velcro (Home Depot carries it,4 pieces 2"x4") mounted on hobby plastic 1/16~1/4". You could use about any flat material ie, wood plastic or metal. I used this method to make a dual controller set up for NES Smash TV. Works very will with the NES. I had never heard of Smash TV. When I found out it was created by the Eugene Jarvis (Robotron creator), I had to give it a look. Fun game. It sucks without the dual set up. Any way, 5200 controllers are flat so this should work fine with this method.
