MaxSpeed #1 Posted December 4, 2002 I just started playing Chopper Command and it is pretty good ! Reminds me of Defender without flicker combined with M.A.S.H.
D.Yancey #2 Posted December 4, 2002 Great game! You should be able to max this thing with minimal practice time at 999,999. Good luck!!
StanJr #3 Posted December 4, 2002 Gee thanks, dyancy. I've been playing Chopper Command for months now (and I love it) and I can't crack 100K. I guess I suck.
D.Yancey #4 Posted December 4, 2002 OOOpps! Sorry Stan Jr. Keep at it. I thought that aside from Laser Blast that it is one of the easier Activision games to max. Don't try it on a emulator though(very difficult!).
MaxSpeed #5 Posted December 4, 2002 Stan, your score may seem low compared to dyancey, but I am barely breaking 20k ! 100K seems unreachable to me !
D.Yancey #6 Posted December 4, 2002 Here's a tip for you guys having trouble: The first group of enemies on a level are the most difficult to clear because you need to clear out a saftey zone for your chopper to fly in. Once this is done, the rest of the level should be no problem. Always approach the enemy from behind(Fly left so you are coming up behind the convoy of trucks). This way, everything is moving away from you. Approach each section of the level so that the enemies barely enter the screen and start blasting. Since they are moving away from you, you will need to tap to the left to catch them occasionally. They will not be able to reach you and their bombs should be little trouble either if you line up perfectly and blast each enemy just as it enters the screen before it shoots! I mainly use the radar screen and listen to the sounds to know what is happening(when I kill an enemy). The play on the normal screen is so fast that I only glance at it occasonally. Use your instruments to fly. Good luck and let me know how you do. I'm always glad to help anyone if they are having trouble with an Activision game on the 2600!!! Inky #9 Posted December 4, 2002 When I play, after about level 10 or so, I only use up and down and rarely left or right. I let the enemies come to me!
MegaManFan #10 Posted December 4, 2002 When I play, after about level 10 or so, I only use up and down and rarely left or right. I let the enemies come to me! You can do that to some degree on the lower levels too. Fly ahead almost to where there are enemies on the radar, then wait a few seconds for them to come on screen and blast 'em to particle dust. Much less risky than trying to swoop straight in for the kill, because if your errant shot misses you still have time to fire again instead of going SMACK right into the enemy or THEIR shot. StanJr #11 Posted December 4, 2002 Yeah, that is pretty much MY strategy as well, dyancey, EXCEPT for the not looking at the main screen part! Holy poop! How do you manage that? I check the radar a lot, but I use the main screen to line up my shots and avoid those darn splinter bombs they drop! You are truly amazing at this game! Rock on. NE146 #12 Posted December 5, 2002 Aah yes Chopper Command. The Defender rip-off that kicked even 2600 Defender's ass! And check it out in the picture.. the lasers have that smooth white and blue streak in them! Those are AMAZING graphics for the 2600 don't you think? heheh ok In all seriousness. I love this game too

D.Yancey #14 Posted December 7, 2002 Some of the Kaboom! greats told me to play Kaboom! only looking at the center of the screen and catch the bombs with you periphial vision. Now that's tough!!
King Atari #15 Posted December 7, 2002 Back when I first got a 2600, Chopper Command got a LOT of play. Kind of like M*A*S*H, only you're blasting instead of saving (Maybe a Part 1/ Part 2 thing going on).
Goochman #16 Posted December 7, 2002 I was never great at CC when I was younger but a few years back when I picked it up to play I got 999,999 on my third game - go figure! I thought Laser Blast was the only game I could accomplish that one!
