I'm using the news server of my local ISP here in Austria. There were times when the server was better maintained, but at least they are still providing a nntp server.

 

BTW: I just checked news.aioe.org and csa8 is there, too.

There are a few interesting posts every now and then. And since most (all?) users with NNTP clients have put Bravo Sierra Computers into their killfiles a long time ago it's just a low-traffic newsgroup with almost no spam.

 

BTW: better use news.aioe.org (or some other public NNTP server), the google groups webinterface is really horrible, especially when compared to a fine NNTP client.

Thanks for that news server! I am enjoying being on there again. I guess my local BBS feed is just not working. Good to know since that Newsgroup was such a great conversation area... and seems to still be at times.

I was reading comp.sys.atari.8bit by fall 1989 (via either the Info-Atari8 Digest Internet email list, or the INFO-A8 Listserv on BITNET, which was back then separate from the Internet, who remembers THAT??  )..

 

According to Google Groups, I first posted stuff there in Feb. 1990.

heh my first posts to usenet are dated in '91, but i had read access in '86, a friend got a DECSystem 20, and set it up with uucp, and was able to get a feed... but it was run from his home, and i had to 'share' his single phone line with 8-9 other of his friends for access...
