+doctorclu #1 Posted November 17, 2010 So has anyone been able to access comp.sys.atari.bit lately? If so, what news server are you using?
HiassofT #2 Posted November 17, 2010 So has anyone been able to access comp.sys.atari.bit lately? Yes, I just saw the "Welcome to comp.sys.atari.8bit!" message from today: Message-ID: <atari-8-bit/[email protected]>From: Michael Current <[email protected]> Newsgroups: comp.sys.atari.8bit,comp.answers,news.answers Subject: Welcome to comp.sys.atari.8bit! Followup-To: comp.sys.atari.8bit Date: 17 Nov 2010 05:21:53 GMT If so, what news server are you using? I'm using the news server of my local ISP here in Austria. There were times when the server was better maintained, but at least they are still providing a nntp server. BTW: I just checked news.aioe.org and csa8 is there, too. so long, Hias
+GroovyBee #3 Posted November 17, 2010 Yep! Working fine from my UK ISP.
Rybags #4 Posted November 17, 2010 Alternate means if you can't get it using normal readers http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.atari.8bit As usual, 95% spam - barely worth checking the thing.
HiassofT #5 Posted November 17, 2010 Alternate means if you can't get it using normal readers http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.atari.8bit As usual, 95% spam - barely worth checking the thing. There are a few interesting posts every now and then. And since most (all?) users with NNTP clients have put Bravo Sierra Computers into their killfiles a long time ago it's just a low-traffic newsgroup with almost no spam. BTW: better use news.aioe.org (or some other public NNTP server), the google groups webinterface is really horrible, especially when compared to a fine NNTP client. so long, Hias

Justin42 #12 Posted November 18, 2010 The names all bring up memories, I remember Sinclap just being obnoxious but no specifics. (and BSC's ads) It's amazing the stuff that gets stuck in the mental cobwebs from 1993...
AlmostRice #13 Posted November 18, 2010 The names all bring up memories, I remember Sinclap just being obnoxious but no specifics. (and BSC's ads) I left the atari scene in 1990 when all the support evaporated. I got to miss all those rants.
+doctorclu #14 Posted November 18, 2010 BTW: I just checked news.aioe.org and csa8 is there, too. Thanks for that news server! I am enjoying being on there again. I guess my local BBS feed is just not working. Good to know since that Newsgroup was such a great conversation area... and seems to still be at times. +Stephen #15 Posted November 19, 2010 So you guys don't remember Sinclap? I guess I'm the only Grandpa here!!!! (actually I have no kids but I feel like Grandpa) I remember the annoyance factor. I got my Jag sometime in 95, and was on Jag Interactive when it was still on the redsun servers.

+hunmanik #19 Posted November 21, 2010 I was reading comp.sys.atari.8bit by fall 1989 (via either the Info-Atari8 Digest Internet email list, or the INFO-A8 Listserv on BITNET, which was back then separate from the Internet, who remembers THAT?? ).. According to Google Groups, I first posted stuff there in Feb. 1990. Yes I remember Sinclap, though I never really got into that stuff..
+save2600 #20 Posted March 3, 2011 Good 'ol Sinclap. I wonder what ever happened to him?
sloopy #21 Posted March 3, 2011 heh my first posts to usenet are dated in '91, but i had read access in '86, a friend got a DECSystem 20, and set it up with uucp, and was able to get a feed... but it was run from his home, and i had to 'share' his single phone line with 8-9 other of his friends for access... my-dejanews, had an account... i screwed up and didnt change my ebay info, so i am sloopym on ebay, and not sloopy :'/ sloopy. +wood_jl #22 Posted March 3, 2011 Good 'ol Sinclap. I wonder what ever happened to him? He was the most ardent Apple-lover to invade an Atari message board. Shades of Sinclap?? :)
