IntellivisionDude #1 Posted November 17, 2010 I thought i'd start this new topic for a random memory from the past i just had but didn't really know what topic to put it in. Maybe if anybody out there has some random flash back moment and not sure where to put it, you can add it here, or not. Doesn't matter. I was watching a Youtube video for Super Puzzle Fighter for the GBA and it reminded me of when i bought my copy for the PS1. I can recall the game was real high on my wish list. We went to Walmart sometime during the Christmas shopping season (i'm pretty sure it was the year the game came out or the following year so we will say 96 or 97). And being so early in the Playstation's life you never saw discount or budget games for it (am i wrong on that?). But anyway, i go the electronic section to check out what games they have and my jaw dropped when i seen they had this game discounted to $5. I snagged it right away. I think there was only one other copy left after i got mine and it was gone before we left the store. I guess it some sort of super christmas discount they had on that one and only game. I never did see anything like that again around that time. It's still a favorite game of mine to this day, and there is a chance i may have never bought it if wasn't discounted like it was that day. Atariman #2 Posted November 17, 2010 Hmm... hearing that memory reminds me of one I have about the Saturn. Back when the Saturn was well on its way out, there were still a few stores that were getting rid of their old inventory. One of these was K-Mart. I looked in their glass case and saw a copy of Blazing Dragons and was dismayed to see that it was still marked for $50! I had been interested in this game for awhile and was hoping to pick it up for much, much less. I inquired about it and the person behind the counter went and grabbed the game, making note that they no longer used the kind of price tags it had on it. Scanning it into the system, she also noticed that it wasn't even in their inventory anymore! Since it wasn't even supposed to be there, she asked me how much I'd be willing to pay for the game. I suggested that $10 would probably be fair and she concurred. She rang it up for me and I walked out with a shiny new copy of Blazing Dragons for the Saturn. Along those same lines, I was visiting D.C. at one point and went to their big mall. I decided to check out the Kay Bee that they had and was surprised to see that they had an S-Video cable for the Jaguar! I brought it up to the counter and the woman gave it a funny look and said that it wasn't even supposed to be there anymore, so she gave it to me! I spied a Jaguar controller behind the counter and she said I could have that, too. I sure could've used more experiences like that when buying my Jaguar stuff! cimerians #3 Posted November 18, 2010 1984 - After watching Indy Temple of Doom at a local theater we head on our bikes to a Kay Bee Toys in the mall and find 99 cent copies of Mythicon Atari games. They were less than impressive but we loved the price. Little did we know the doom that had been happening to the Atari 2600 (and the rest of the videogame world). By then we thought it was outdated but we still played it now and then. 1987 - After playing Super Mario Brothers...I was like oh my god this is awesome I need to get an NES. 1997 - Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII amaze me at how much games have grown. Tomb Raider was also something sweet....the PS1 starts another evolution of video games. 2001-2005 - Three of the greatest video games of all time show me the future of video games. Halo, Ninja Gaiden Black and God of War. 2006 - To me the Xbox 360 starts another evolution of video games with the Xbox 360/DLC/achievements and Oblivion. The best RPG I played in a long time. Lendorien #5 Posted November 18, 2010 This thread got me thinking. First time I really remember being significant to me in my young mind gaming was playing Adventure int he late 80's on my Dad's Kaypro 2X. It left me open for playing Zork on a friend's Apple II int he early 90's that started my love for computer gaming that continued until the last couple years when computer gaming sort of went into the toilet. Video gaming though, it has to be playing Super Contra on the NES. We didn't know the cheat code and got good enough to finish it twice on 2 player mode in an hour. Heh. Eltigro #6 Posted November 21, 2010 I remember my dad won a 2600 and several games at a local grocery store's grand opening celebration. We already had a 2600 so he put the new one up in a closet somewhere. We only got one game out of the ones he won, I picked Yar's Revenge. Never knew what happened to the 2600 or the other games. I remember playing Metal Gear on the NES. I lost the map that came with it and got to a point in the game where I didn't know where to go next. I let someone borrow it and they beat it. I asked them how they got past that point and they said there was a door at the top of the screen. I couldn't see it because the picture on my TV was stretched out vertically and cut off the very top of the screen so I couldn't see the door. I remember renting an NES and Tiger Heli. I remember going over to a friend's house and thinking about how rich he must be because he had a Sega Master System and an NES with R.O.B. The robot was broken though, so we had to play Gyromite as a two person game. One person could control the switch/door things with controller two while the other person controlled the player. I remember my best friend and I used to rent every game a place offered even if it was not something we thought we would like. We worked our way down to Micky Mousecapade and ended up playing it all night. Actually saw the Sun come up in the morning. I remember being proud of myself for figuring out a way to cheat on Suikoden for the Playstation. There's a shell game where you can bet money and the more you bet, the faster it goes. I hooked the playstation up through a VCR, pressed record, bet a lot, then played back the video in slo-mo so I could follow the cup. I remember playing Pole Position and Spy Hunter at Mazzio's Pizza, Galaga at Dairy Queen, Mrs. Pac-Man and Moon Patrol at the gas station... I remember getting into a fight with my best friend over Military Madness for the TG-16. I have lots of random memories...

+jd_1138 #8 Posted November 22, 2010 I remember playing Pole Position and Spy Hunter at Mazzio's Pizza, Galaga at Dairy Queen, Mrs. Pac-Man and Moon Patrol at the gas station... I remember playing Frogger and Defender at a Mazzio's Pizza in the early 80's when we lived in Elk City, Oklahoma. What a great pizza joint that is/was. Way better than Pizza Hut/Domino's. psquare75 #10 Posted November 23, 2010 Huh, I was at the 1989 Nintendo Championships.. not as a player, but looking at and playing the new games (Crystalis, Final Fantasy! DragonSpirit!). I had a hat for years. Hot Topic actually released a shirt with the logo a few months ago. Of course I had to get it.
