AtariSociety #1 Posted November 19, 2010 I seem to remember in the olden days ( ) that there was a small Atari to Atari networking kit that allowed Atari STs and TTs, etc... to be networked together. It was not ethernet but something more like the localtalk found on Macs. What was that called? Did it indeed allow Atari to Atari networking? Any links that discusses the hardware and software involved in this style kit? Lastly, anyone know of a source that sells these? I have a room of all Atari systems, both 8bit and 16/32bit, meaning atari 800, 800xl, 130xe, 520ST, Mega 2ST, and now a TT030. Would be cool to network them all together. tj
OldAtarian #2 Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) I always used a null modem cable and terminal software running on both ST's to transfer files back and forth. The midi ports could be used for a form of networking, though, as evidenced by games like Midi Maze. Edited November 19, 2010 by OldAtarian
wongck #3 Posted November 22, 2010 Atari ST to ST/Falcon/TT are all networkable using the MIDI. There's tons like LittleNet, MidiNet, PowerNet.... Not sure if they do 8-bits... probably not as 8-bits may not have MIDI connectors.
Zogging Hell #4 Posted November 22, 2010 tj I think the port you are thinking about is indeed a localtalk/ appletalk compatible one, which was only on the TT and Falcon (possibly also the Mega STe as well). It just used a standard apple cable (they should be available on E-bay). Software wise I think either STiK or STinG had some sort of support for that port. They are both free and should be available. I'm not sure how good the support was however, I've never heard of an Atarian actually using those ports. It isn't that fast, and the MIDI ports (as suggested by the other guys here) are probably better for networking. MIDI cables are also a lot cheaper..
