+Ransom #1 Posted November 19, 2010 When I play Bump 'n' Jump in emulation, it's really touchy about at what point you push the button to jump over the waterways. Push and release at least two tiles before, and you're OK. Push and release in the final tile before, and maybe you'll jump, maybe you'll splash into the water. I don't have these problems with the Intellivision and 2600 versions, but I'm not sure whether the problems I'm seeing on the CV are due to running it in emulation, or if the code's really that touchy. Is it really that touchy on the CV?
Murph74 #2 Posted November 20, 2010 Personally, I don't think it's the emulation. Bump n Jump is a fave, but it took some getting used to on the timing when I first played it 20 something years ago.
+Ransom #3 Posted November 20, 2010 Thank you for the answer, Murph. I think I'll buy other CV carts before that one, then.
chrisbid #4 Posted November 20, 2010 there are a lot of colecovision games with wonky controls. i am not sure if that is a function of hardware or a function of programming.
NIAD #5 Posted November 20, 2010 Thank you for the answer, Murph. I think I'll buy other CV carts before that one, then. Do you have the ColecoVision version of Bump 'n' Jump by Mattel in rom format? It is a never released prototype that has been available for download for a while and if you have one of AtariMax's carts, you can try it out as well on a real CV. The actual game quality isn't as good as Coleco's version and I would have to play it to be able to comment on it's controls.
Atariboy #6 Posted November 20, 2010 What sort of tv are you playing on? If you've recently moved some classics systems to a modern HDTV, it's possible that this is input lag that you're experiencing.

CV can have wonky controls though, which is one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of the system.
Yurkie #8 Posted November 20, 2010 I think it plays really well. It was a HSC and I really enjoyed playing it. I think it was probably the emulator. If you don't have the SD Multi-Cart I highly recommend it. You can play all the games.
NIAD #9 Posted November 20, 2010 Have you tried playing it with the Exp. Mod. #02 Driving Controller? I actually have never tried it and always just selected the standard hand controller option at the selection menu, but now that my interest is peeked, I'm gonna have to give it a go! Murph74 #10 Posted November 20, 2010 I wouldn't expect it to be lag. Not saying it's impossible, but with all the Xbox/PS3/Wii's out there, if lag were an issue I think it would be better known to the masses.
LocalH #11 Posted December 21, 2010 I wouldn't expect it to be lag. Not saying it's impossible, but with all the Xbox/PS3/Wii's out there, if lag were an issue I think it would be better known to the masses. Lag is less of an issue with systems that can output at least 480p (but is still an issue if you use component cabled to connect). I have my PS2 hooked up to a 37" LCD over S-Video and I can definitely detect lag on certain games, most noticeable classic games (both compilations as well as via NES emulation) as well as music games. However, there is much less lag on my 360 in 720p over component, and even less when I tested it with an HDMI cable. There is still a tiny bit of lag no matter what I do, and I would wager that to be the case with most, if not all, of LCD TVs. I tried playing Sonic Mega Collection+ on my PS2 recently, and it was almost unplayable because of lag. I would expect the same to be true with any 480i or less console. Surprisingly, the one input on my TV that seems to have no lag whatsoever is VGA, at it's native res of 1366x768. Haven't tested for lag in lower resolutions, though. Murph74 #12 Posted December 22, 2010 Interesting, LocalH. Wonder if it's TV by TV, or it's just an issue with panel TV's, or what other problems may exist. Noticeable lag and video games I would think make for an unplayable combination, but I'd never heard of it being an issue until this thread. Totally not like the time I tried to hook up a 2600 to my projector thru my ReplayTV... Now *THAT* was lag. (Running it thru the DVD Recorder worked like a noticeable-lag-free champ though!)
