kennercanada #1 Posted November 20, 2010 Purchased in the early 90's at the Toys R Us I was working for at the time in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada. I can't find anything on it at all on this site, with the closest hardware being listed as Australlian, possibly licensed. This is definitely NTSC, has a copyright date of 1991 by the Atari Corporation in Sunnyvale. Thanks in advance, Jim
+Random Terrain #2 Posted November 20, 2010 You could always ask Olivia Munn: http://www.oliviamunn.com/photoshoot-starring-an-atari-joystick/ No, probably not. I spent a little time Googling and all I've found so far is that the CX-78 Atari 7800 controller was sold in them thar foreign countries: http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.html?SystemID=7800&ControllerID=24 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_7800#Peripherals Isn't Canada one of dem foreign countries? I ain't got no map, so I'm not sure where Canada is. Is it near South America?
Jarskimo #3 Posted November 20, 2010 They sold this product in Scandinavian countries
OldSchoolRetroGamer #4 Posted November 20, 2010 Very odd this would of been purchased in Toronto Canada that is where I am from and mostly we got the same items as the U.S. though packaging might be different. Interesting find. So is it an 2600 Jr. packed with 7800 Euro controllers?
+save2600 #5 Posted November 20, 2010 (edited) Toronto... isn't that by the French Quarter? Perhaps a distributor, retailer or manager was confused back in the day! lol Edited November 20, 2010 by save2600
jhd #6 Posted November 21, 2010 Does it have the usual Canadian bilingual packaging? If not, then it was very probably something imported "informally" rather than through normal channels of distribution. Speaking as a fellow Canadian, I have never seen anything like this (though the Jr. model is, in my experience, much less common than its larger siblings). Herbarius #7 Posted November 21, 2010 In Europe it was common for the Joypads being packaged not only with the 7800 but also the 2600jr. Just to add my two cents.
OldAtarian #8 Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) Was the wide rainbow stripe model released in NTSC markets? I thought that was a PAL thing. Edited November 21, 2010 by OldAtarian
ApolloBoy #9 Posted November 23, 2010 Was the wide rainbow stripe model released in NTSC markets? I thought that was a PAL thing. Yes, it's actually pretty common in the US. My first 2600 was a long rainbow Jr, come to think of it.
Algus #10 Posted November 23, 2010 Long Strip Atari 2600 Jr. seems to be the cheapest iteration of the hardware available on the used market in the United States. It is the type of machine I have and it is the only model I see for lower prices. Six switches, even if they aren't Heavy Sixers, seem to command quite the premium and even the Woody and Darth Vader units are going up. The Juniors stay pretty low though. Sucks cuz I'd love a six switch (not necessarily a heavy sixer) but I don't really want to put out that much cash. Oh well.

Thanks in advance, Jim This is also identical to the packaging used for the Jr. around 1988 in Australia - I received one as a Christmas present (packaged with Dodge 'Em). I beleive they were being sold for $39.99 as a cheap alternative for the NES. Gladly, I have had more fun playing and collecting for it than I ever had with any NES game

Hit the yard sales early and often. I got a heavy sixer for $8, complete with original box. Edited December 4, 2010 by tz101
Algus #13 Posted December 4, 2010 Heh, funny enough a few days after I posted in this topic I saw a great deal for a 6 switch on ebay with a stack of games and manuals I didn't have so I decided to bite the bullet. It arrived today
DickNixonArisen #14 Posted December 9, 2010 I want one of those pads badly, and I have the money for one, but I just can't justify it. I also don't drink, so I can't suppress my inhibitions or conscience long enough to buy one.
maiki #15 Posted December 9, 2010 Have they even released 1991 NTSC package? Since the box looks like my 1991 PAL-B junior.
