Virtual Boy link cable

Recommended Posts

Pat over at Planet VirtualBoy is planning on getting some link cables made.

The cables (and the port) were never used during the VB's short life.

The main use will be linking of consoles for 2 player games. But there's other interfacing uses too.

Please show your interest and help make it happen.

Thanks

Cool idea, but what would you use it for? I do own a VB and a most of the games but don't know another person who owns one. So I get my link cable then what?

Wasn't it physically the same as the Gameboy cable?

No.

This IS cool.. But my question is, do any games SUPPORT the link cable?

No, but homebrew games could definitely support it and that scene has been growing quite a bit.

It would have been cool....had any production game actually been made to use it. However, very few people actually have a VB, fewer could give two shits about it, and fewer still will actually collect for it.

I would be one of the tiniest group that would like to get one, especially if it's actually a manufactured part, and ot to much...

BTW, whatever happend to the virtualboy flash cart? I heard about a few revisions, and then nothing.

I'm still making them.

What restricts the availability is the fact that we have to use existing carts as donors of the connector and case. Even the common games have gone way up in price recently.

I'm thinking of now building them on a 'one by one' basis. You send me the donor cart, I build and case the PCB, and I return it to you. They'll be no fancy box, just the cart (labelled), cable and drivers.

Hmm, how much would your flashcart cost? I've got a few extra Tennis carts laying around.

I think I got a dupe or two and wouldn't mind getting one. I just must have missed the part where the cart was finalized and made available somewhere along the line. :P

Ditto. I know I have a spare cart I'd sacrifice.

Let me get back to you. I need to first find a quick and precise way of cutting the hole for the USB socket and removing the connector from the donor cart. The way I do it at the moment is MUCH too time consuming.

BTW would anyone be up for doing the casing themselves ?

I wouldn't case about the casing honestly. The cart is going to stay permanently in my VB anyway.
