SpaceDice2010 #1 Posted November 21, 2010 Seriously. I can't wait for Test Drive 2 to come out, but beyond that the company could could broke and I could care less. I mean.. Look at how they are going to butcher Yars Revenge. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/yars-revenge-remade-into-an-anime-inspired-rail-shooter/
Animan #2 Posted November 21, 2010 Just because it has nothing to do with Yars Revenge doesn't mean it will suck. It's kind of like Sonic 3D Blast. It was a decent game, even though it was almost a completely new game with the Sonic license slapped on to it. I don't think we should be so critical yet, as no gameplay images or videos have come out yet. I personally am a huge fan of rail shooters, so I will be looking forward to this.

What you acctually mean to say is I couldn't care less, saying that you could care less means that you do acctually care and could stand to care less than you already do. There are some phrases I can let past my inspection but that one is just plain stupid

Crazy Climber #6 Posted November 21, 2010 I don't like how the article says except for sharing the same name it basically has NOTHING to do with original the game.
Algus #7 Posted November 21, 2010 These guys basically have been broke for years, somehow they keep clinging to life. They really are just an awful company. I was playing Star Trek Online for a few months when it came out at the beginning of the year and it really was terrible how they just exploited the userbase with ridiculous microtransactions and can walk away from it making Cryptic look like the bad guys. Nolan Bushnell is with the company again though so maybe he can help get them back on track. I dunno though, I mean I <3 Bushnell but I'm not sure his portfolio is good for managing a modern gaming company.

OldAtarian #9 Posted November 21, 2010 I'm glad I won't be buying this one, then. I was hoping it would be updated, but I also hoped it would maintain at least a thread of commonality with the original.

Krooze L-Roy #13 Posted November 21, 2010 It always irks me when companies "reboot" a franchise and give it the same name as the original, as if the new one completely renders the original obsolete. So whenever I talk to someone about Ninja Gaiden, or Shinobi, or Shadowrun, or whatever, I've got to specify which one I mean. And you can't just say "the old one," cause anything more than a year or two old is considered "oldschool" to most gamers. At least in this case they changed the title ever so slightly, but still. And honestly, reading the article, I tried to keep an open mind. After all, I'd rather have a completely new game than just "Yars' Revenge with corny 'updated' visuals" any day. But, watching the movie at the end, where the "Yar" is just a dude with a wing-suit (rather than, you know, a real-life Yar ), it totally lost me. I could care less about the game now (yeah, I still care a little).
Atari Joe #14 Posted November 21, 2010 Where is Bushnell on this has he made any public comment? He was brought in to make sure Atari would do the right thing and protect their legacy titles the right way.

Underball #16 Posted November 22, 2010 Actually, I could care less means the same thing as what you guys are arguing, when said sarcastically. Neither one is grammatically incorrect, and clearly the point of his post was to express disappointment at a relatively unimportant subject, I.e. Sarcasm.
S1500 #17 Posted November 22, 2010 You know, you can only milk the Atari franchise so much. I mean, how much of a storyline, etc can you extrapolate from Pong, etc? Might as well remake Atari games based solely on their artwork + basic gameplay.
Algus #18 Posted November 22, 2010 I dunno mate, some of those instruction manuals get pretty detailed. Just think of all those planets that would have been pillaged and plundered by the nefarious Galaxian fleet. Not to mention all of those asteroids the Cosmic Space Patrol had to contend with. OldAtarian #19 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Where is Bushnell on this has he made any public comment? He was brought in to make sure Atari would do the right thing and protect their legacy titles the right way. I don't think Bushnell was hired on for anything more than his name recognition. You know how it goes, Atari sends out a press release saying Nolan Bushnell signed on for this project or that project and the old time Atari fans go nuts. Nolan probably doesn't actually do much of anything except maybe supervise a team who does all the real work. I would guess he mostly just signs his name to a lot of stuff to make it look official and gets paid for the use of his name. How long do you think it's been since he actually coded anything? Probably a lot longer than the last time Bill Gates bashed out a program. Edited November 22, 2010 by OldAtarian
psquare75 #20 Posted November 22, 2010 You figure him being board member (or whatever he is, I am not 100% following it), with Atari.. and this being "ATARI AGE" , he may have stuck around and made this a go to place for info..

+wood_jl #22 Posted November 22, 2010 Obviously, it's not an easy thing to do, to "reboot" an aged videogame franchise. If they just remade the game with basically the same gameplay but with super-graphics, only aging fat baldies would buy it. That doesn't constitute the majority of the game-buying gotta-have-it-now demographic. These kids want it all gimmicked-and-wowed-up, or they'll call it "boring." jaybird3rd #25 Posted November 22, 2010 I never understood the idea of "remaking" an old game into something that bears no resemblance to the original, except for the name. Fans of the original game will only resent it because it's a different game with the old name slapped onto it, and younger players won't recognize the name anyway, so what's the point? They might as well call it something else. I was also nonplussed by the "trailer," which tells you nothing whatsoever about the game itself.
