Sparta Dos X Homebrew carts

Recommended Posts

There's a listing up right now for a home made SpartaDos 4.42 cartridge. Is this a good way to get started with SpartaDos, or should I just get disks from somewhere?

SDX is a cart-based DOS so there are no disks. IF you have an AtariMax Flashcart, you can download everything you need to turn it into a SDX 4.42 cart.

I purchased from this seller before, I made an offer less than the buy it now and he accepted, cart works good. I have not tried it with my R-Time 8 cart yet, waiting for new battery and battery clip to get delivered so I can try it out.

It looks like SDX would fit in 8Mbit cart so Steve would price it at $45 shipped. Still a heck of a profit if it is the flash cart.

I think there's a 1Mbit image without the man pages.

See the project's page for details.

Is there a point to buying it without the pass through?

Yes, the only reason you need the pass through is to piggy back another cart. I use the latest version of Sparta on my machine pretty much every day using an 8Mbit AtariMax flashcart and have never missed the pass through.

I'm curious -- are you able to put working language cart images in the 8 Mb cart along with the SDX? And do you use a HD -- PBI-type?

If you want to run any cartridge based app with SDX - yes. That's about the only reason I can think of.

IntSDX is the solution I chose: although it's not plug and play, it immediately gets rid of the cart you'd otherwise have plugged into the machine 24/7.

The 8Mbit image of SDX has the man pages included. I don't think there's room to include any langauge carts too. I have no idea how you'd go about it.

As for HDD, I'll tell you once I get home and plug in my brand new MIO :D

I've been using ABBUCs SIO2SD and SDrive NUXX in the past.
