OldAtarian #1 Posted November 23, 2010 Does anyone know where to find one of these? I thought the Centronics cable that came with my ATR8000 might be usable but it isn't. The edge connector on the 825 is wider than the edge connector on the ATR8000. Does anyone sell a cable or adapter that fits on the edge connector and converts it to a standard Centronics connector or SIO connector?

OldAtarian #5 Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Strange you should know that... also strange as I don't have an 825 so no need for the cable... Would you sell it? I did check B&C after I posted this and they show them buried in their parts list, (I really had to search to find it) but I'd rather get one from an an AA'er if possible. I don't know what "standard" is but it isn't the plastic Centronics connector found on other printers of the time period. It's a 40 pin edge connector but apparently only 36 of those pins are used by the 850. I don't know that it would really be worth the effort to make one, I just hoped someone had one ready to go. Since the 825 was a rebadged Centronics printer, I'd be very surprised if they didn't use the 36-pin connector. Interestingly, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centronics , that connector was chosen being Wang Labs had a bunch left over from a calculator product. +bob1200xl #11 Posted November 25, 2010 It is not any kind of standard cable. Making one would be a chore and B&C only wants $10 for one. That's way reasonable - get it from them. We should support the remaining Atari vendors as best we can and when it makes sense. Bob Does anyone know where to find one of these? If you are going to be using the 825 with your ATR8000, instead of an 850/MIO/P:R: Connector, you will probably want to use an adapter with a Centronics 36-pin female connector to 40-pin card edge connector. Instructions for making one is at the bottom of this web-page, and the following is available from B&C Computervisions which I assume is basically the same. UNIXcoffee928 #17 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) ... Interestingly, according to http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Centronics , that connector was chosen being Wang Labs had a bunch left over from a calculator product. Now there's a funny tid-bit of info! Given the widespread adoption of the oh-so-hi-tech & professional sounding "Centronics Port", back in the day... Can you imagine if, instead, it was known as the "Wang Port"? rofl Somehow, I don't think that it would have been as popular at IBM, lol. Even better, picture yourself working at a computer store in the mid eighties, and two dorky nerds come in looking for a "Wang Connector"... hahahaha!
