Inky #1 Posted December 5, 2002 How many of you are checking out the awesome Game Maker program which is available at this site? What kind of programs are you attempting with it? Many of you know about my Rhindle Jr. project (which is coming along nicely. The entire Adventure map is done.)
IceCold #2 Posted December 5, 2002 I just downloaded game maker yesterday, and I've been messing with it a little. I've made a little space game where I used the plane from Zaxxon(arcade) and made it so you can fly around a little area and shoot another plane(controlled by another person). I can get them to fly around and bounce off walls and stuff, I cannot figure out how to get them to shoot each other. I only messed with it for a short while though, so I'll do some more reading and try again tomorrow. I'm just happy being able to see something I created, even if it is just a picture of the plane from Zaxxon flying around. I know I can do better once I get more time. I really like that great program, it's very nice. I've seen the games you have made with it, they're very nice! Good job.
AtariKee #3 Posted December 23, 2002 I downloaded it and read some of the manual, but I have't really dove into it as of yet. It seems similar to Multimedia Fusion, but more powerful in that it lets you dive a bit further into it and write some code. Once I finish the shooter Im working on, I may explore it further. I played a shooter that someone wrote using Game Maker, and I was very impressed. Kee
Inky #4 Posted December 23, 2002 I'm still trying to get my game finished up. I have one more major hurdle to pass, and then review the level design, and I should be finished. I was hoping to have it out by Christmas, but you know how these things are.

Inky #7 Posted March 13, 2003 Anybody got updates on any creations with this program? They just released version 4.3C of it the other day, and have uploaded some more sample games. As far as my game goes, I'm going to recompile it in the new version, and finally publically release it. I have some ideas of new projects, but I haven't really decided what to do next.. Although lately I've been experimenting with 3/4 perspective shooters. Apparently someone is working on a .DLL file for Game Maker that allows you to create first person games with it!! Inky #8 Posted May 1, 2003 They just released version 5 of Game Maker. Some enhancements: Now they have objects for health bars, there's a timeline function, and now game maker has 2 modes: Beginner and advanced. For beginning and advanced GM users, naturally. I like the new version. One other thing is that they are encouraging users to register GM for $15. Now, nothing will be crippled, and there are no nag screens, so you can still use GM free of charge, the only thing is that if you want to submit a game to many of the contests in the GM community, they will only accept ones from those who have registered. Still a great product though. Next payday I'm going to register it.
Greg Zumwalt #9 Posted May 1, 2003 Awesome! Thanks for the FYI. Maybe time to recreate some of my old RPGs made with version 3...

Atari Master #11 Posted May 7, 2003 I would download it... If I could make online games with it.
Inky #12 Posted May 7, 2003 I would download it... If I could make online games with it. There is support for online games, it's just that there's no drag-and-drop for it, IIRC. Here's a link to the GameMaker Tutorial page The last item on the page is a network gaming tutorial.
Atari Master #13 Posted May 8, 2003 Hmm... What do you mean? Just have to creat the chat part? Might be able to do it if I put some WD40 into my brain. Might make an online version of COMBAT!
Inky #14 Posted May 8, 2003 Hmm... What do you mean? Just have to creat the chat part? Might be able to do it if I put some WD40 into my brain. Might make an online version of COMBAT! I've just been reading the networking tutorial. The concept itself is fairly simple, but I could see how it would easily get complex to program. You may want to try the networked pong demo they have.
