Eltigro #26 Posted December 1, 2010 I remember pretty much all of the Nintendo ones. Especially the "Gear Up" one for Metal Gear. I also remember a few of the Atari ones. I remember I used to love the ones that showed the same game on several different systems. I remember one for Bad Dudes that made the Amiga look awesome. And yeah, once we start getting into the TG-16 ads, I remember those as well. I can still remember reading a gaming magazine in the back seat of the car on the way home from the store and trying to convince my parents to buy me a TurboGrafx... maximebeauvais #27 Posted December 1, 2010 very good topic however, it will be fun to do the same with other comic book.

SoulBlazer #29 Posted December 1, 2010 Sorry, all I have to share with you is this CD collection of Amazing Spider Man's. I'll keep sharing more as I keep reading the comics.
DickNixonArisen #30 Posted December 2, 2010 Yep, always Bonk's Adventure. You'd think the system was as popular as the genesis based on comic book ads. I love all these... I lost most of my interest in comics a few years back, but I still love the ads in them for videogames and Dungeons and Dragons...
SoulBlazer #31 Posted December 2, 2010 Yep, always Bonk's Adventure. You'd think the system was as popular as the genesis based on comic book ads. I love all these... I lost most of my interest in comics a few years back, but I still love the ads in them for videogames and Dungeons and Dragons... Oh Lord...there are TONS of D&D ads and stuff for the games here. If I had posted all that stuff I'd have more ads up for that then for video games. Yeah, I saw the Bonk's Adventure comics in some reading I was doing last night, it's coming in my next update. I'll update tonight with the rest of the 1990 ad's.
SoulBlazer #32 Posted December 3, 2010 Here's the rest of the ad's from the year 1990. More NES game ads, but also a full page comic for Bonk's Adventure and Splaterhouse for the TG-16. Also a ad for Child World selling the Genesis and the NES and a NES themed Shampoo.
SoulBlazer #33 Posted December 5, 2010 First half of 1991 just saw more NES and Game Boy stuff, for some great games (Castlevania III, Mega Man 3, Destiny of a Emperor), some not so great games (Punisher, Double Dragon 3, Beattlejuice) and some REALLY HARD games (Battletoads, anyone?) A few game related items here also. Never heard of the Konami Laserscope before. Sounds cool in theory, but how well does it work in pratice?
SoulBlazer #34 Posted December 12, 2010 The second half of 1991 started to see Sega push it's games, with the Genesis picking up steam and popularity. You also saw regular companies Konami and Acclaim continue to hawk their games. The Game Genie also was being allowed to be sold in the States now and this wonderfull device was also being sold here. SoulBlazer #35 Posted December 12, 2010 1992 saw a mixture of NES, Game Boy, Genesis, and now Game Gear ads that apeared. It was also very strange seeing Sony selling games for the NES and Game Boy. I had totally forgotten that they had a company called Sony Imagesoft that made games during this time period. Really love the three page spread that Konami gave the SNES port of TMNT: Turtles in Time.
ovalbugmann #36 Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) Nice thread! Thanks for all the interesting old game ads to look at here, SoulBlazer. I didn't see the majority of them when they came out, but now they all sure take me back to the pure, early videogame awe I had wayyy back in the day, in what seems like a world removed: The 1980's. SoulBlazer #37 Posted December 12, 2010 No problem. I know people HERE are not going to be as interested in the stuff I am posting now, since I'm getting fully into the 16 bit days. But as I keep reading the comics I'll keep sharing the ads so anyone who wants can see them, and I still have 1993 thru 2004 to go through. It's also been interesting in encourging me to check some of these games out, and others bring back memories.
StanJr #38 Posted December 12, 2010 I disagree. I think this is the perfect forum for this thread and I think the people who look here will greatly appreciate the posts! I'm oddly sort of reading along with you (I'm in the 90's, Maximum Carnage era) and enjoying the same look back at the ads in the comics. TSR practically supported the comics industry in the early 90's! TSR and Konami's endless TMNT ads! PS, You are going to have trouble making sense of the major crossovers coming your way Maximum Carnage and others if you only have the Amazing Spider-man issues. Have you read through this era in Spidey comics before?
+wood_jl #39 Posted December 12, 2010 These ads are great! It would be cool to print them all out and make wallpaper for the game room. Yes, nerdy - but in a good way, eh?

PS, You are going to have trouble making sense of the major crossovers coming your way Maximum Carnage and others if you only have the Amazing Spider-man issues. Have you read through this era in Spidey comics before? No, this is the first time I have read these. The CD set I got from Amazon just has the first 500 Amazing Spider Man's -- none of the anuals, none of the other comics, just these. And yeah, I REALLY hate the whole crossover thing. Not characters showing up in the comic -- I really like Captain America also -- but how they have like one plotline going across three different comics, just to make you go out and buy all of them! At least there are little blurbs when something else happens in another comic, and that's been enough for me to figure out what is going on. I just started reading into 1993 with the Spider Slayer plot finished and still dealing with the aperence of Parker's parents. Glad to know people are still looking at these also! I happen to love all the TMNT games.
StanJr #41 Posted December 12, 2010 You are going to have a time with Maximum Carnage, its a 14 parter with only 3 parts in Amazing Spider-man. Maximum Clonage same way. If you need gaps filled in, let me know, like I said I'm reading about a year ahead of you right now, so it is all fresh in my mind and I would be happy to help you make sense of the storylines. Algus #42 Posted December 12, 2010 Haha, its the Mystic Quest ad! That ad is burned into my soul!
DickNixonArisen #43 Posted December 14, 2010 The mystic quest ad is Weird. No fantasy elements. Not that the game is worth playing anyway...
SoulBlazer #44 Posted December 14, 2010 The mystic quest ad is Weird. No fantasy elements. Not that the game is worth playing anyway... It gets stranger. I haven't posted all of them yet.
SoulBlazer #45 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) 1993 continued to see the regular companies doing their plugs on the regular systems, not much new here. Konami was still advertising big time, as was Sony Imagesoft and Sega and Acclaim. Square did more of those weird Final Fantasy Mystic Quest adds. I also include scans for any video game related items, contests that had games or games systems offered, and movies based off video games. Never heard of this Tiny Toons Cartoon Workshop game. Did it come out? Sounds rather unique. Edited December 19, 2010 by SoulBlazer
SoulBlazer #46 Posted December 19, 2010 In 1994 we saw the last adds for the older NES and Game Boy and more for the SNES, Game Gear, Sega CD, and Genesis. I think I saw more adds in 1993 and 1994 then any other time in the past, just showing how more and more of them were showing up in comics. Notice that strange Sega IR 7000 device. What the hell is this? I never heard of this before, did it come out?
Vic George 2K3 #47 Posted December 19, 2010 I vote for the resurrection of the Turbo Touch 360 for modern consoles.
SoulBlazer #48 Posted October 4, 2011 SInce it's been a while, and there are new members who might be interested, I thought I would give this a bump. Hey, it's my own thread, I can necro it if I want! I wasn't planning on doing any more scans -- by the late 90's video games adds in comic books were getting few and far between, and weren't as interesting as they were during the 1980-1994 period. Chuck D. Head #49 Posted October 4, 2011 This is very cool and thanks for sharing! Does anyone have a complete run of a DC title through the same time period? It would be interesting to see if there were any different ads there......
mbd30 #50 Posted October 4, 2011 1983 saw a explosion of game ads. There were at least 1, and usually more, in each issue. Most of the advertising was done by just two companies, though -- Parker Brothers and Mattel. Why they chose to place ads here and no one else did, I'm not sure. I hope nobody bought "Riddle of the Sphinx" expecting a real brain teaser. It wasn't that hard.
