Is O'Shea's Still a Valid Site?

Recommended Posts

I went to their site tonight and Firefox gave me a security warning that O'Shea's site certificate did not match the URL. I proceeded to override Firefox and went to the site, but is it safe to enter my credit card number and personal information on their online order form? Has anyone else ordered from there recently?

Their website hasn't been touched in years. Most of the games they have listed on their order form have long since been sold for scrap; the only ones they have left are Ballblazer and Jinks.

I emailed them about this roughly a year ago and advised that they update their certificate. The response I got was more or less "<sarcasm>we'll get right on that...</sarcasm>"

I bought a bunch of their 7800 cartridges when they were still liquidating them. In my opinion, they're not very nice people to deal with. They gave me a decent price, mainly because I bought several cases at once, but they want too much for the ones they have left. They kept Ballblazer and Jinks only because they learned that the RAM and POKEY chips were valuable, but now that the upcoming XM module will include both POKEY and RAM, there isn't the same demand for old 7800 donors that have them as there used to be. There isn't much use for the old boards, either, since newer (and better) ones are now available that don't require you to desolder old ROMs. The only thing their lot has to offer anymore is cartridge shells, and the $3 they want per cartridge (which is what they were charging when I last talked to them) is just too expensive for that.

Co's like that soon go out of business. A lot of people probably have decided not to order due to that out-of-date security certificate, and then you do them a favor by pointing it out, and they respond with sarcasm. ain't cool.

When I emailed he told me they still have some of all the games on the order form.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember that somebody (perhaps it was you) once said that they had a few left of the other titles. However, just about all of those titles are very common, mainly because a bunch of resellers scooped them up from O'Shea's back when they were still selling them for 80 cents each. I can guarantee that anyone who wants them today will be able to find a better source than O'Shea's.
