WANTED: PAK68K/30

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone had one and willing to part with it. Or a complete machine with it fitted would also be welcome.

Thanks!

I wish you luck Alan. Those things seem to be rarer than Hen's teeth.

Kinda like Dave Smalls SST accelerator. I'd love to have one of those

for my Mega ST!

I'm glad someone else said it. I was going to post pretty much the same thing yesterday but was afraid I'd be flamed for it. I really don't think anyone who has one is going to let it go and if they did, it wouldn't be cheap. It would probably be easier to just get a TT or Falcon from Best or B&C.

Did the TinyTurbo030 ever make it out the door in large #s? That seems to be the product to get for ST owners?

The SST was STe only from what Ive read?

I thought TOS crashed on 68020 and above?

I want the Vortex 80286 'accelerator' lol :)

That would be awfully inconvenient for the CT63 owners if it did.

The Falcon has already an MC68030 cpu running at 16MHz so the TOS 4.x has to accomodate for that. The ST and Mega ST TOSes did not support MC68010 and higher. My Mega ST 1 has a PAK68/2 and needs KAOS instead of TOS.

Okay, here is some stuff I found about the TinyTurbo, the SST, etc,...:

And no, the SST was not STe only, as far as I can tell. These attached pics

are not good quality, sorry about that.

Would swapping in a set of TOS 2.06 chips work?

The PAK/3 (ProzessorAustauschKarte - processor replacement card) is quite rare but extremely nice. Maybe it might be successful to ask Heise in Hannover about it as they invented it (iirc as a project within the c't magazine). It works for Atari, Amiga, Macintosh and maybe other computers with 68k socket.

I think there has been a patched TOS 1.04 (KAOS works as well), or a patched TOS 3.xx to use it on an ST.

With a FRaK/2 (FastRamKarte - fastram card) and a Panther (ISA slot adapter) you could have up to 64 megs of ram and a graphics card (Mach or ET4k).

I'm not certain about TOS versions for PAK/1 or PAK/2 though.

You might want to d/l the PAK-pages on http://wrsonline.de/ to get more information about the PAK/3, you just might encounter problems when trying to find the patched TOS 3.xx.

Already asked wrsonline and they gave me the contact at C'T magazine. Unfortunately, they don't reply to my emails.

My Mega-ST1 has a PAK68/2 and needs KAOS 1.4 as TOS replacement.

I have a maybe interresting set:

2 x PAK68/3

2 x PuPla/2

2 x FRAK/2

1 x GABI

2 x 32 MB Simms 72 Pin

2 Macintosh 68030 Upgrades

1 x 68030 32 MHz CPU + 32 MHz FPU

1 x 68030 50 MHz CPU

both boxed, new and never used. You can either use them in you SE, or use the 68k processors for the PAK like I planned to do.

All parts are new and from WRS online. I was one of the last regular customers in 2003. The PAKs and FRAKs are partially assembled by Roland Skuplik (all sockets, ...). All the GALs are also included. I never started to finish them as I had two opened questions: 1.) I wanted to use it with the not deliverable TAG-Rams. 2.) I have no ROM-burner at my hand, which is needed. So you would get absolutely new units, that were never touched by me. All manuals are included (in german language) as well as the component placement specification. The Mac upgrades are ready to use (Retail products, no self-construction like the Atari ones), include the complete boxes, with printed mauals in english, a tong for the CPU etc. The PuPla is needed if you like to use a Panther/2 ISA adapter, or If you like to use the PAK/FRAK inside a MegaSTE as I planned to do.

As it seems this items are highly demanded, and I never started to finish them (and as I do not like to wait another 7 years), I will give the whole set away for 490,- Euros (worldwide shipping included). Do not ask me what I paid, ...

I will not start to sell them seperately, as I do not like to find out which GAL belongs to which unit.

Wish I could have afforded this - maybe around tax refund time it would have been "do-able"

for me personally.

Alan, if you do get this, I hope you will please consider putting one of them back on the market. :)

Alan, I'm reopening this thread because I have a question. Going by the sellers original description,

it looks like the manuals (in English!) were included in this sale.

Not trying to pry or be nosey in any way, but if that is so, could you please find some way to scan

them and put them online?

It would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :)

PS EDIT - ah, never mind - I re-read it again, and it was the Mac stuff that had the English docs. :(

Has anyone claimed ownership on this board of any of the STs that supposedly had 286 processor slots directly on the motherboard?

You talking about the 1040STe Plus?

I've got this picture of the schematics:

I've never actually heard of one in existence? Would be a find for sure. :)
