spookt #51 Posted February 15, 2011 I'd be interested in either kit. How many SMT components are there?
venom4728a #52 Posted February 15, 2011 Update: Well the SMT chips and resistors are soldered in. I found most of my hair and was able to glue the roots back in. Found that the Epson RTC footprint was larger than library part Eagle had. Pins are hanging off the pads on one side. Ugly, but it should work on the prototype okay. That will get fixed on the production board. I really flubbed the battery holder. Made an assumption that the part Eagle had would be easy to find. Not! Again since it's a prototype I'll make what I have fit. I have ordered 3 different types from Mouser and will use one of them to make a library part to use on the production board. Programed the GAL, OS and SDX chips and will attempt to finish putting the board together by Wednesday. Then it's wiring the board into a willing 800XL. That should be even more fun. Will you be making any of these to be sold, if so I would like to get on the list to purchase one. Thanks Venom4728a Whoa!! I'm not ready to start taking requests yet. I want to make sure that I haven't made a fatal flaw in my design first. I would like to see how many would prefer one of these options though. 1. Bare board with parts list and instructions (Pretty cheap from me $10-15 USD) 2. Kit form (board, parts and instructions) (Not so cheap from me $25-40 USD) 3. Finished Board (Most expensive from me $50-$70 USD) I'm also thinking about putting out a 130XE version. I've got a 800XL MMU adapter board already designed and ready for production. Handy for the intSDX board. I'm also designing and will be testing an internal OSS compatible 4in1 Cart board. Not really thinking massive numbers here. Just trying to gauge the interest. I would probably be interested in a couple for 800xl and 130xe my soldering skills are getting better so I think I would go for the kits Thanks Venom4728a
Dropcheck #53 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) Update: Finished the prototype assembly: Next step is installing in a willing 800XL. Looks kinda rough but I'll be refining the layout and parts list for the production version. Edited February 18, 2011 by Dropcheck
+tf_hh #54 Posted February 23, 2011 Hi! I´ve try to get some DS1210 here in germany, but this seems to be a problem. Some distributors have them, but I´ve to buy 100 pieces :-( Does anybody knows a substitute (must NOT be pin-compatible!) for the DS1210? Any other IC in DIP/PDIP with the same functionality? Any hints welcome. Regards, Juergen
HiassofT #55 Posted February 23, 2011 I´ve try to get some DS1210 here in germany, but this seems to be a problem. Some distributors have them, but I´ve to buy 100 pieces :-( Farnell and RS have the DS1210 on stock. If you only need a few chips just order a sample from Dallas/Maxim. so long, Hias
+David_P #56 Posted February 24, 2011 Futurlec (from Thailand lists it at $2.75 per unit; I think they offer volume discounts. http://www.futurlec.com/ICDallas.shtml
+tf_hh #57 Posted February 24, 2011 Hi Hias & David, thanks for your info. I´ve bought some at Darius GmbH in Germany for 4 Euro, it´s ok. Thanks, Juergen
tregare #58 Posted February 24, 2011 I've built the ARC RTC described here: ARC Clock However, although the ARCLOCK.SYS driver seems to initialize and accepts the date and time, the time/date aren't saving between powerdowns. I'm interfacing the unit with an IntSDX, which is supposed to have the address decoder built into the GAL. Anyone know the hardware base address for ARC? I'd like to monitor the registers with EYE or some such. I may have done something wrong in the battery circuit, but in any case I want to verify that the registers are updating properly. Also: surely the RTC 72421A has a built-in oscillator? According to the datasheet, the RTC72421 has an internal oscillator. also, to simplify the battery section, you can do it with one chip, rather than all the other componants. using a DS1210 that is... IMO the 1210 is the better (and safer) way to go.
Dropcheck #59 Posted February 27, 2011 Update #2: The proto board has been installed but not yet tested. I will try to finish testing tomorrow. We'll see if I'm going to let the smoke out.
Dropcheck #60 Posted February 28, 2011 No smoke. That's good isn't it? But.... no boot. I am getting a green screen. I've tried turning on/off the intSDX. No change. No hot chips. I've rechecked the ARC connection to the CPU A4 line, that's pin 14 right? I am using Lotharek's instructions to connect o2 and r/w to CPU pins 39 and 36 and CCTL to ls158 pin 10. I've double checked my MMU adapter to make sure that the connections there match the original bent pin/hole connections. flashjazzcat did you use the CPU or the Antic connections for O2/ R/W signals on Lotharek's intSDX board? Try using the buffered PHI2 signal, because the output from the CPU is very weak. You can use Pin 11 of the 74LS08 above the CPU for example, or PHI2 from POKEY/PIA/PBI etc. Good luck, Juergen
flashjazzcat #62 Posted February 28, 2011 flashjazzcat did you use the CPU or the Antic connections for O2/ R/W signals on Lotharek's intSDX board? I used the CPU connections, most recently via the adapter board I built. IIRC, Lotharek's instructions included a hookup to GTIA (R/W)? I'll have a look in the Atari tonight. Dropcheck #63 Posted March 2, 2011 Update: I'm beginning to believe that it's not connections to the motherboard. More likely it is either a bad flash to the GAL or a smt chip that got too hot and burned up. I've been over the schematic and the motherboard wiring a zillon times and nothing looks amiss. I tried moving the o2 and R/W connections to the Antic chip, but it made no difference. Of course the GAL chip is not socketed, so simply replacing it isn't an option. I don't know how but I'm gonna try to design the production board for a socketed GAL. I hate SMTs. Well maybe hate is a kinda strong word. I don't like them. There, that's better. Chips in DIP packages are getting rarer as that old technology gives way to SMT. I have to work with them if I want all the options to fit on the board. I don't have to like them though. I have a spare board and parts. Looks like I'll be spending some late nights again to make up a second board.

Dropcheck #65 Posted March 22, 2011 Any progress with this yet? With Candle's 1mb upgrade coming out I'm not sure it's worth continuing. Seems like his has everything I was going to include and more.
flashjazzcat #66 Posted March 22, 2011 With Candle's 1mb upgrade coming out I'm not sure it's worth continuing. Seems like his has everything I was going to include and more. For shame! I was going to put one in my 130XE. It already has a perfectly good 1MB upgrade that I have no intention of removing.
