lucifershalo #1 Posted December 7, 2010 I would like to have an ADAM does Adam add on (to use with Colecovision console) also needs the printer for power supply? I saw some "special" homemade power supply that doesnt need printer to work, easy to find? what is the cheapest to buy the Adam add on or Adam computer? thanks
jblenkle #2 Posted December 7, 2010 Can't speak for which would be cheaper at this point, but yes, you do need a printer or external power supply with either version of ADAM. The ColecoVision power supply won't run the ADAM if you have the expansion module version. Coleco also provided an easy to align tray that would make connecting the ColecoVision and Exp. Mod. #3 Memory Console easier. All the rest of the ADAM components (Printer, Keyboard, Disk Drives, Modem, Memory Expanders, etc.) will work with this version of the ADAM the same as the Stand-Alone ADAM. The Stand-Alone is the ADAM Memory Console with the ColecoVision circuit board built-in and it also provides for composite output as well as being a smaller footprint, but the Defender and Super Cobra cartridges will not work on it. In order to power either version of the ADAM, you will need the ADAM Printer or an external power supply like the one that was being sold for a while on eBay by ArcadeCollecting (looks like a very nice unit) and if I recall correctly he had about 20 or so available and must have sold out of them. Sure it wouldn't hurt to search him out on eBay and ask if there are any more available. There are also about 3 ADAM mail-order vendors still in business from the 80's that may have a supply of power supplies that were removed from the ADAM Printer... this was a populat trend when people would upgrade to a dot matrix printer. From what I've seen on eBay, the Exp. Mod. #3 ADAMs don't seem to sell very well and end up being reposted multiple times. The Stand-Alone ADAM (again, the one that doesn't require the ColecoVision system because it's built in) has ranged in price from the low to mid 100s and a lot depends on the condition, if things are missing and of course if it includes the original monster of a box... which surprisingly most seem to have even after all these years. djpubba #4 Posted December 8, 2010 ArcadeCollecting on eBay is me. I did get few more power supplies in stock to convert but just haven't had a chance to wire 'em up yet. The cheapest I'd sell a complete 100% tested Adam with a stand-alone power supply (off eBay) would be $150. That'd be with both controllers cleaned, tested and every button, direction and key working and the tape drive tested and working 100% (rare indeed). That'd be a with a few tested working games on cart and tape included. I have one like that on eBay now but it is listed a bit higher ($190, obo) because of the crazy fees on eBay/Paypal. Probably would accept a $165 offer on eBay or $150 from here.

If that SD module for the ADAM comes out, I will most likely get the stand-alone ADAM console. Would be great to play the ADAM only game binaries off the SD module.
