Dreadnaught Factor

Is this game really $35-$45 worth of goodness?

That is the current going rate, and I am thinking hard about the rationale of the purchase. Will I get my money's worth in gaming enjoyment?

I'd like to get the Atari 8-bit version myself. I have the Intellivision version which isn't bad. The last one I saw on ebay for the XL/XE went for around $25 IIRC. I didn't think the 5200 went as high as you're saying. Interesting.

$35-$45? :o

I don't remember where I got my copy, but I don't think I paid more than $10 or $15 for it. Pretty good game, though. The Intellivision version is really good, too.

Agreed. I think mine was only $10-12. It's a great game and I prefer the vertical scrolling to the INTV's side scrolling. I also prefer the 2 button fire control to the A8's single button. Makes it alot easier for the bombing.

Go to Collector's Cards and Games website. They have Dreadnaught Factor (cartridge only) for the 5200 for $7. With shipping, it would probably come to $10 - $12.

Maybe I'm just out of touch or something (it HAS been a pretty long time since I've made any 5200-related purchases...), but that just strikes me as ridiculous. :|

You should be able to get Dreadnaught for less than that. Even CIB, I'd maybe do $25 tops.

Fixed price listings are hardly indicative of a game's going rate, and eBay sellers charging a premium is certainly nothing new. Plus, there's always bound to be a price spike when and if no other alternatives are avalable (Atari2600.com is sold out of this particular title at the moment).

I paid $30 for a fancy still in shrinkwrap copy recently. I just _love_ the game and wanted the box and instructions, it's been worth it to me.

Anymore, it seems like carts without box and instructions are dimestore cheap and anything (no matter the rarity, almost) with box & inst. are going ridiculously high.

But again, I just love the game. It's like Xevious set in Star Wars taking out Star Destroyers. The only thing that completely sucks is the text and advertising on the back of the box, which stinks like only bad 80's advertising can.

"Capice?" Ugh.

You sure these are not "fixed price listings"?

You know that those are not "indicative" of a game's going rate, don't you? :ponder:

And actually.... the game didn't sell for that price, seller has relisted it.

Seller is trying to get $26 for Dig Dug, $35 for Qbert, and $110 for Beamrider. Good luck with all that, dude...

The one that I listed was from Terapeak over 90 days. It has gone loose from $3-$12 over the past 90 days. BIN's tend to go for more because they cater to those that don't want to get in a bidding war and have to wait. Some BINs are right on the money while others are way off. This is one reason that you really have to throw out whatever a price guide says as the prices always get skewed by the high BINS. But, here is the deal, in the past 90 days only one CIB has been listed according to TeraPeak, so that does say something about the value.

"Going rate" has nothing to do with a BIN asking price (even if occasionally one does sell for high, for the reason stated in the above post). ! I thought everyone knew this by now (no offense).

I agree with you on that. However, when only one has been listed in the past 90 days it does start to approach a rarer level than maybe before. Not a lot of these are getting listed CIB. That is what I have found anyways. Market price is set by supply and demand. There has been no real supply of these until now. I guess we will have to see how the demand reacts to these at that price.

Yes, of course, but that will be looking at prices after a sale(s). My point was that the OP stated "That is the current going rate," but it is in fact not necessarily the current going rate, but rather only the current asking price. Once they start selling at that price, then maybe you could call it the current (ebay) "going rate".

What the OP said was the same thing as when you walk into a used game shop, ask how much an item is, they go on ebay and see unsold BIN prices ("asking prices") and tell you that's how much they want for it, because that's what they are "going for". Bzzzzzt... wrong way to go about determining a value or a price (though sometimes it may be the correct price, but that's not my point here).

[i think we agree, saying the same thing in a different way.]

Hmmmmmmmm.....I bought a NIB one for $25 shipped not too long ago off of ebay. I think it came out of that Venezulian warehouse. If they flood the market from there I am sure the price on this one is going to drop. Maybe they will find a couple cases of Bounty Bob in that secret warehouse. I don't want anyone to lose money on thier copy, but damn I don't wanna pay $500 plus for a loose copy.

You have to look at completed listings in green, not red, to determine the going rate. BIN's, reserve auctions or auctions with a high opening bid are bad indicators to use. I could list one for $100 but that doesn't mean I am going to get it or that they are all suddenly worth $100.

When I look at completed listings it's via terapeak and only factor in completed listings.

Past 30 days a CIB was sold for $35. Someone had just the instruction manual listed for $7 but it didn't sell.
