beamer320i
Hi all, As the title says, having a clear-out and found this U.K. price list for the XL range dated 09/83, never seen it anywhere else so thought I'd post it on here... I notice the ill-fated CP/M module and the Expansion System were listed TBA, and the 1027 printer could have been yours for only £299 GBP!! Cheers Dom

Rybags
Just shows how much we were getting screwed back then. I got my 800XL probably mid-84 and paid about $650 for it. Even the 64K expansion for the 600XL was a ripoff, at the time you'd barely save $20 on 600XL+1064 vs just buying an 800XL to begin with. MEtalGuy66
Wow. I got my 800XL in late 85 or early 86 and paid $35.00 for it brand new at Sears! They had a huge stack of 600XLs and 800XLs they were "clearancing".. The 600XLs were $25.00. What was the US DOLLAR - BRITISH POUND exchange rate in 83? Tempest
I'm more amazed at the prices of the printers. How can the printer be more expensive than the computer? Tempest
Rybags
$AUD was about 0.43 Pounds in late 1983. $US was probably $1.20 or so to our dollar, so you're probably looking at around $US 1.90 per Pound at that time.
carmel_andrews
I remember someone at sillica telling me that importers (like atari) used to do a straight dollar/pound exchange (i.e 1 for 1) so if the 1050 was listing at 299.99 in the US, it would be listing at 299.99 in the UK also (same applies to other atari gear)...however, atari were'nt the only one's playing this game Apparently, the excuse for the 1 for 1 gig was so that importers wouldn't lose on import duties (i.e the monery made by selling kit on a 1 for 1 gig offset any import duty overheads Edited December 16, 2010 by carmel_andrews
Kylev
Rybags, You certainly paid top dollar for your machine. I bought my first 800xl for $199.99 on clearance from some department store (wasn't Sears) in winter 82/83. Russ

svenski
Loads of people were doing the same and still do in the UK when it comes to imports. My Hyundai F2 Coupe (long gone) cost me £19,000 new. Shortly after I was in Canada working and almost the same model was $19,000 Canadian - £8,500 Pounds !! I got my 800XL for £99.99 with the 1010, joystick and games. Before that you could get an 800XL with 1010 for about £130 and an 800XL with 1050 for about £270 - these were the Atari bundle offers that Atari UK came out with early 85.
