SpendTooMuchOnAtari #1 Posted December 17, 2010 Hey guys, just a quick question about a dime I found in my spare change that immediately caught my attention because it didn't "jingle" like the normal coins I'm used to. It's a dime from 1963 and I guess has some silver content but I don't really know coins. Maybe it's worth 20 cents, lol. I just thought I'd check here before throwing it in with the other change because I know someone here knows their coins. Thanks for your thoughts. EDIT: I'm going to hold on to this one, see if I can find more.

I'll look for the pre-1964 quarters too (or whatever year it is). Just start a little collection of coins with the bit of silver in them. Also, thanks for the info raskar42! +thanatos #5 Posted December 17, 2010 Just keep looking through your change every day until you have a roll. Then it's worth something. It's extremely unlikely to find any silver coins anymore, he'll never get a roll that way. Back in the 80's it still happened occasionally. I haven't found a pre-1964 silver coin in change in probably 15 years. Had a co-worker get a quarter about 5 years ago, and I bought it for a buck. At current silver prices it is an amazing deal. It's funny how they make a different sound, isn't it! Most people would never notice that.

I think for Canadian coins it is a slightly lower silver content, but it lasted a few more years, until 1967.
zylon #7 Posted December 17, 2010 Even as a scrap piece of silver, a silver dime is around .75 or so.

SpendTooMuchOnAtari #10 Posted December 17, 2010 I just edited the original post so if anyone wants it for a buck plus shipping which is basically just a stamp, let me know. If you can do a paypal gift of $1.45, it's all yours. Or, if you want to keep this in mind if you buy a game or something from me in the future, we could throw this dime in the package for an extra dollar. Thanks again for all the thoughts! It is now selling for about $28 an ounce. I think those prices are a bit out of date. That dime has about $2 worth of silver in it. http://www.coinflation.com/

But, it's kinda fun to look through your coins.
SpendTooMuchOnAtari #13 Posted December 21, 2010 Does anyone want it for $1.45 shipped via Paypal gift? Or, if you by something from another of my sale threads, we could just add it in there for an extra $1, no extra shipping of course.
Crazy Climber #14 Posted December 21, 2010 I remember back when I was younger my Dad had a bunch of these in a jar above the fridge, well, one day I needed a pack of smokes so I pillaged the dime jar. No it wasn't a ton of money or anything but he was still pissed.
