Intellivision Ebay Roundup

Recommended Posts

I don't know the guy and will reserve judgement. I'm just wondering what Odyssey items are theoretically anywhere near that valuable. I'm just used to seeing cheap Odyssey 2 games for like a buck. Is Odyssey 1 a rare console?

It is somewhat pricey largely in part due to a single person that started buying them up several years ago for resale (not the seller here). I've never seen one actually sell for anywhere near that price however. Plenty of BIN prices out there like that though.

Odyssey 1 is much more collectable than 2. They really have nothing to do with each other.

But no odyssey item is worth that.

While a never used nib odyssey would be very rare and desirable it's not worth anywhere near that. A 10th of that would be extreme to me.

But I suppose someone with money to burn that wanted a nib odyssey might see that as their only option.

There are rare odyssey items, a cib run 1 system in nice shape, the later release games, clone systems, variants etc.

This seller had tried to buy nearly every odyssey that sold on ebay for the last 10 years.

So kind of trying to corner the market and it actually turned a lot if people off to collecting the Odyssey because they would always loose to him.

He saw it as a mission from Ralph baer to get as many of them working and into the hands of collectors as he could....but he marked them up a lot and I saw it as him turning people off to collecting them. A lot of guys can fix this stuff on their own anyway.

Well now he is in poor health and has stopped buying them up and has a lot of stuff he needs to get rid if.

The inty lot is happiestsellerever.

The odyssey seller is robotkingnes...that's who I am talking about. He also has other seller accounts.

However I believe happiest bought this complete inty set from robotkingnes. As he had this same set listed for years as well.

Those were the 2 people I was referencing as well. I believe robotkingnes changed his eBay handle to magnavoxodysseyspecialist.

He certiainly turned me away from the odyssey 1. After losing so many auctions to him every time and see him relist them for unreal prices, I gave up on that and never managed to add one to my collection.

Yep, he did change it. He had at least 1 other account that is like capecod something or other.

That's sad you never got one....maybe you can now that he is supposedly retiring from it and not buying more.

He made me slow up on pong variant collecting.

For awhile he was doing the same thing with weird pong clones.

Lost many times to him, then he would list them for twice the price he paid....they wouldn't sell for months and eventually he would have them priced down for less than he bought them for....silly :P

I thought the Intellivision III was unreleased.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 2910315880461?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=291031588046&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

FYI, don't buy this eBay listing since it is horribly overpriced. It is not worth $4995.

Several people estimated it's actual value at $1100 to $1500. As you can see from the links below, this same listing has been up for >3 years.

It looks like he added the missing games (Spiker, SMB, LF2, Worn Whomper), but none of the boxes. All the heavy hitters are loose. Even with the added games, $2000 would be a huge stretch. I did quick math to include the rare additions and still only came up with ~$1600 and that's assuming $500 for the loose Spiker. Edited by JasonlikesINTV

He is still buying things at crazy prices and then cranking the price up exponentially beyond that and no one is buying at those prices. As you said, you can see that now and then he'll sell something for a "buy it now" price that is far below his original asking price.

Recently, I asked him if he knew where I could find an Odyssey related item I was looking for and he told me he would let me know if he saw one. Soon, he pointed me to the auction of one on Ebay. I thought, "Cool. Nice guy." So, I set a maximum bid and bid on it. Well, to my amazement, at the last minute he ran the auction up hundreds of dollars AGAINST me to beyond my max and ended up paying a huge amount for the item. It was CRAZY-INSANE-BONKERS to see! He then had the NERVE to contact me and tried to sell the item to me at a HUGENORMOUS FREAKING MARKUP! So, I was like - "HUH?!?!?!?!? WTF?!?!?!?" I would have purchased the item for a decent price until he completely screwed everything. And on the other side, he paid a giant amount for something that was really only worth that amount to a collector that was willing to pay it, not to try to sell for profit after that. I'll never deal with this guy again. He's just plain nutso. Of course, it's his money to throw away. But HOLY GUACAMOLE!!!! I thought I was in BIZZARO WORLD!

I think everyone misses the point on these, sellers list complete collections for keywords on Ebay. The minute you search for any NTSC Intellivision game on Ebay that listing will come up regardless, and 50% of people that view it will click on the little red door next to the sellers name. It is free advertising, in the end they don't want to sell it. It is much much cheaper than paying for sponsored listings on Ebay or any type of advertising Ebay has to offer. And it is there for good. As the item increases with watchers and hits, all it does is increase the item's visibility on Ebay. Brilliant if you ask me.

Looks like that seller has many "collections" listed, each one has every single title spelled out. Easy hits for an Ebay store, this must be why he\she can list titles at a 30-40% markup and still sell them.

When I search for "intellivision complete," that listing doesn't show up on the first page. If I search for "burgertime intellivision complete," for instance, or "diner intellivision complete," it doesn't show up either.

So I don't know how well this strategy is working for the seller if indeed that is their goal.
