It's no big, it was just interesting, this was my first transaction here and never thought there would be this much fall out, :P. Coleco, I do hope tou find an RCA though, good luck. :P

Now that I've heard Chris's side of the story I stand by 'poor communication' like I said eariler. Chris should have probaly worded that better to you and hopefully he'll learn from this and do that from now on. Anytime I've sold anything on here and someone has asked eariler I'll say 'X number of people have contacted me allready about this' and so on.

That said, someone who allready had asked about the system sent money, so it was sold. No big deal. Timing can be everything in the Marketplace. I missed out on a copy of Black Ops here for the 360 for a GREAT price cause I wasn't the first person to PM the guy and missed it by 5 minutes. :P

They are fifth grade, they really love them! I do the 'video game club' twice a week with two different classes in the program. I teach the history of the unit, show them the insides, or pictures of the insides, documents and boxes and the cultural relevance, and what the system would be equivalent to today. and they all get to play the old games. These are kids who thought that the only system ever made was a PS3 or XBOX360, Wii PS2 or Gamecube! I am trying to show them to appreciate what is old, and that the old games are fun too!

This I think is great, glad to see young'uns exposed to old school videogaming greatness. icon_thumbsup.gif

Thanks! They loved the 2600 and hated the Intellivision with the intellivoice!

This, on the other hand, I find to be amongst the most disturbing words ever spoken.icon_mrgreen.gif Clearly these children lack a measurable IQ, and should be put back a couple of grades. This is the real epic fail in this thread....icon_wink.gif

I bought from Chris myself and found him to be fair and totally honest. Having sold stuff here myself I know that things can happen within a matter of hours. Like forgetting you already agreed to sell X to another party first. I know this has happened to me, and you can't say you forgotten something. It just plain happens.

Wow,

Amazed at the number of "sour grapes" posts around AA lately (this one, a couple eBay sidedeal ones, blah blah blah).

Suck it up a little, life doesn't always go your way no matter how righteous you feel.

And, oh yes, times are tough, "Money talks, bullshit walks".

I'll gladly accept a paypal payment of X right now over the possibility that someone might give me X+Y at a later date.

look, I am usually VERY workable, but, when someone says to make any offer, and they will give you a deal and that they want to get rid of it, after 4 months of it being on here, then magically that day they sell it (within an 18 hour period) it is ridiculous. Maybe it is a poor choice of words on his part, and I have given him the benefit of the doubt. But, in the business world and in sales, which I am in and have been in, this kind of thing is unacceptable, you give the person a chance to counter, maybe he would have gotten more? I honestly have no idea what it is worth, but, I know it has a horrible reputation, so, I thought $20 was a good place to start, and after some wheeling and dealing and back and forth you maybe get up up near $40 or $50, and like I said I use them in my school program for my students, so, to me it is worth what it is worth to me, but you give the person you are talking to a chance to counter and not respond, with a "thanks its gone" thing

Seriously, what is with people whining and crying about pointless crap lately. Your offer must have sucked to him, weather it was worth it or not, big deal, move on and buy a different one. Oh, you can't find another one for $20? Well, looks like you should have came out the gates with a better offer then ;) Who knows, he might have just blown you off with the "already sold" line but remember this valuable lesson.....when making an offer, start out a little higher than 40% of the price you are willing to pay if you would like to be taken seriously.

I have been doing business dealings since, probably before you were born! ..... as a buyer you offer low, seller offers high, you end up with a middle that both are happy with, why would I offer $60, when he could come back with $80? I figured it had been up for months and the system is horrible, and no one wanted it, so, bam, $20.

How's that been working for ya ;) For someone who has been doing business dealings for over 35 years you sure don't seem very good at it. The good ones know when to walk away and let it go, you do not, and if you react this way over something you wanted to get for $20 I can only imagine how many car dealerships you have had to be police escorted out of...

haha, very funny, actually my grandfather sold cars for over 60 years, and was the top chevy car salesman in the country for many years, I know when to walk away, I just dont like people who dont deal in good faith, when I always do, I pm you about something and we get a price and I say yes, the payment will be there in a few minutes! Literally! With Chris, I was dealing in good faith, he obviously had a million other people he was dealing with too. I guess, it is more of a personal component to business rather than just business, like knowing your potential customers.

Look, the real issue is you are just mad you didn't get the stuff, that is usually what it comes down to. Yeah, you can say it was "ethics" and "principle" but the fact is, you are upset you didn't get what you wanted. Especially since it would seem to be a sure thing for you being for sale for 4 months. Don't worry, we ALL feel that way at one time or another weather we like it or not but I find it helps to suppress it deep inside and then totally freak out on my Wife when she drops a plate or something. Yelling at kids cutting across my lawn also works in a pinch :D

No it is ethics, I can find 10 more right now, I honestly do not care. But, I do care about the honesty, it is funny how Chris was dealing with that other guy and the same thing happened to him that he did to me!

And you do realize to that these marketplace forums can be like the "Wild West" too at times i hate to say and sometimes ethics can be thrown out the door when it comes with dealing with people here. There are some really good people here on AtariAge but sometimes things don't work out the way they should or the way you want. I have had few things go bad for me here too in the past but for the most part all my trades/buys and sales when i was doing them were very good.

Again miscommunications happens as does people doing business and doing business is about getting the best deal and if something better comes along people who are in that frame of mind of profit which is not everyone but those who do sell items for a living or often go with the best deal its the bad side of human nature.

Good luck and let us know if you get another RCA Studio II and how your students like it.

Thanks! They loved the 2600 and hated the Intellivision with the intellivoice! I am looking for a few others, we have burned through many of my systems, hence I am looking for more, like the Panasonic CDI, 3DO, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, any of the early machines like Studio II, or pong stuff (I just bought a KMART pong machine in the box!) So, if you guys know of anyone who has these and is reasonable let me know!

Chris: You lost my business forever, I may be new here, but, I buy a lot of gaming stuff for myself and my class, I hope in the future your communication will be more concise and much clearer to potential buyers in good faith

And to the person who bought the stuff: let me know when you want to sell, and if I dont have one, I will offer you more than what you bought it for from Chris!

I will keep a eye out for you on those systems you are looking for also my i ask how old are your students? I find it neat that younger kids can enjoy the older things we liked.

(and that was all we had back in the day!)

Well that is just awesome that you do this with the kids and it is great to hear that they are enjoying the class.

It's times like this that I really wish I had the power to edit other people's posts LOL

I'm with you on that!

Kinda reminds me of Robotron...

look, I am usually VERY workable, but, when someone says to make any offer, and they will give you a deal and that they want to get rid of it, after 4 months of it being on here, then magically that day they sell it (within an 18 hour period) it is ridiculous.

(and that was all we had back in the day!)

Well that is just awesome that you do this with the kids and it is great to hear that they are enjoying the class.

It's times like this that I really wish I had the power to edit other people's posts LOL

I'm with you on that!

Kinda reminds me of Robotron...

What did I miss?

I think we're working on getting the original post down to a single column of characters.

In Robotron where you have that box in between stages...

At what point will these posts reach critical mass and Atariage asplodes!? :o

Good question...I know it's taking longer and longer to post replies

Coleco, I know things didn't go right for you. I have had things like that happen before (not on AA), and I was upset. But I sat back and cogitated on it for a while. Realized there's not really a good reason to blast another person for a single sale gone bad. That's why there's feedback here and ebay; to help people decide whether to deal. This separate thread, your feelings understood, I believe was inappropriate, as you've already also posted in the feedback for Chris.

I've only had dealings with a very select few here on AA. In instances where I've perceived issues I've made quiet inquiries and found explanations that were acceptable.

One instances was that after sending money to someone via PayPal communication ceased. No account of whether money was received or status of the package for 2 weeks. I privately inquired with someone I thought was a friend of his and he suggested that I start a new conversation with the seller. As it turned out, it is a tech Udall issue on the board that if one person deletes a conversation, they will no longer receive any posts to that conversation, and the other person will not know that. The package had been mailed 1 week earlier, and arrive the next day.

I know that's not the situation here, but the point is that there is often explanation behind issues, and they should be pursued before publicly blasting the other party.

This is airing dirty laundry at it's finest. Why do we keep seeing sour grapes posts these days? Perhaps since it's a buyer's market, people think they are entitled to deals. For me: Sob story + low ball offer + devaluation comment = outright refusal without counteroffer

If you want to buy something, make a reasonable offer, don't tell the seller a story. I'm getting sick of 'it's for my kids', 'it's for my class', 'I'm on public aid but I had it as a kid'. I don't care what you're doing with an item I'm selling (esp. if we are not acquainted), the question for me is, are we both comfortable with the price? I make offers all the time that are well below what the seller gets. Thankfully, folks graciously decline. Even though I may be cheap, I wouldn't consider most of my offers to be 'low ball'.

I'm sorry that Chris would have sold the lot for $20, I would have told him to hold out for at least $80, that's an awesome set of games. But that just shows how generous a seller Chris is. And incidentally, I've bought much from him and traded with him, and I couldn't give him a higher recommendation.

Used car salesman tactics may be swell at a flea market, but here people have an idea of the value of the stuff they sell. They may not be aiming for the top end all the time, but at least consider that when making an offer.

Sorry to not let this thread die.

Not that im experienced selling or buying here, so I dont want anyone to get that impression. However I have extensive experience dealing with fleamarkets where haggling is acceptable and this is precisely why you dont want to give out a lowball offer. If I have something to sell and in my mind I want in a best case senario 80 dollars for it and someone offers me 10, there is little point in my mind haggling with him if I will only take 50 or more. Not to mention even if they would pay the required amount for me to release it, there is still a bad taste in my mouth from the original low offer.

I dont see the "error" in chris's ways that Coleco is describing. I have many times gotten offers for things that either were so low based on 1) The offerer didn't think I knew what I had or 2) The offerer didn't know what I had was worth. Personally I dont get excited as if I own something until I have it in hand. And what this seems like is Coleco Gemini had already jumped the gun and told himself he already had made a deal when he in fact hadn't. Based on his post it seems that "make an offer and its yours" should be binding if chris had been offered $1 dollar. I think it makes more sense when you think about it this way, if the statement wouldnt have been binding for 1 dollar what makes it binding for 20? Makes no sense and he can totally pick and choose who to sell to and for what price IMHO.
