Rik #1 Posted December 26, 2010 Hi all.I got Root Beer Tapper for my CV just recently.Embarrassingly enough i can't figure this game out.No matter what i do, i get killed.I send a mug to all the customers, and grab the mugs before they fall off, and i still get killed. I looked on this CD-Rom i bought with all game manuals on it, and it still doesn't explain the rules. The tapper manual just explains the bonus screen where you have to pick out the unshaken mug. This game does suffer from flicker and faint sprites which makes it harder to see whats going on.I never did play the arcade version which would've helped. It does seem like a good game. Can anyone explain this game to me?Much appreciated! You have customers standing at the bar...e.g. 3 customers...fill up three mugs and send them down the bar...collect any mugs that are about to fall off the bar
ColecoDan #3 Posted December 26, 2010 You have to serve a beer to each customer. If the customer flys off the screen then you satisfied his (root) BEER craving. If the customer hangs around and drinks then you will need to serve him another beer when he finishes drinking the one you just gave him. If you send more beers down the surface then there are patrons to drink it then it will fly off the bar and you will die. If a patron reaches the end of the bar you will die. If an empty mug reaches the end of the bar and comes crashing down then you die. You do not have to stick around and watch the guy drink usually I go down the 4 levels with beer being sent right away. If they leave you a tip and you run down the bar to get it then it causes dancing girls or other things to come out and the patrons will watch the show and pause. If you throw a beer at them while this is happening then they won't catch it and you will die. basically if they are walking toward you then you are good to throw a beer at them and if they are drinking or watching the show then you can't throw a beer at them. If there are three guys walking toward you then you can throw three beers right away you don't have to wait for the lead guy to drink. The coleco version makes the mugs coming back very slow so I usually don't worry about them unless I have to. If you serve all the patrons it won't matter that there are mugs coming back to you the round will end. I really love this game a lot even with the flickering. This game and Dig Dug were always my favorite games to play in the arcade. You could also do a search on youtube a lot of times there will be a video up of someone playing the game so you can watch them play if that helps you understand it better. NIAD #4 Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) Also, start at the shortest counter first and clear all the patrons, then the next shortest on down to the longest. The longer the counter, the more time you have before the patrons will reach the end. The tips are nice and all, but only pick them up if you are in deperate need of a break to clear empty beer mugs as this pause allows more patrons to enter the building which can cause you even more problems. BTW, I personally think this is one of the best games ever made for the ColecoVision (as does my 7 year old son) and once you get the hang of it and progress to the high levels, you will be the one looking to crack open a cold one as the action gets very frantic! youki #6 Posted December 27, 2010 As NIAD said, i think too is one of the best game on colecovision. And one of my favorites games of all time on all machines. I prefer of course Arcade Version and C64 port. But the colecovision port is still very good.

That's something i really didn't expect!!!I can't wait to see what else is in this game!! It just starts recycling the screens from there, but gets harder and faster! If you are playing on skill level 1, give a harder skill level a chance. If you want all out hell on wheels, choose skill level 4.

The only thing I don't like is when the guy comes and shakes the can. You cannot tell on the CV version where it is. It's just completely random. No, not random...you just need a very sharp eye and don't lose sight of the one he shakes. I kind of unfocus on any one particular can and watch them as a group so you can see where the shaken can ends up amongst the rest of them.

Chris Leach #15 Posted January 18, 2011 I loved this game til I got married....The wife provces to be a better Tapper than I! The arcade version was always so great to hear in the arcade as the dancers would change the mood of the game!

(And I didn't get a single bonus for finding the unshaken can. ) This was my score from the last time I played:
Murph74 #17 Posted January 18, 2011 Got to level 44, with 2 guys left before I had to pack it in to get to ready for work today. Keep at it Madaracs, you'll get it... I didn't miss a single can! Score was 166,375 on skill 1 when I quit.
newcoleco #18 Posted January 19, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqQkk7E73bI Maybe this video can help to figure out what is Tapper and how to play it. I'm using an emulator and I'm playing at the highest difficulty level... I've not reached the aliens screen but I'm happy because it's my best game performence so far.
