Best PS1 Light Gun (most compatible)

Recommended Posts

First off I'm sorry if PS1 isn't considered classic gaming, it seems like it is on the cusp of modern and classic, but the modern forum seems like it is more about the current generation of systems, so I posted it here.

Second, I have never been a fan of light gun games, but that might be because most of my experience is with the NES zapper. I while a go I bought a sega CD that came with a Justifier, both lethal enforcer games, and snatcher (all disk only). Anyway, I am now addicted to light gun games and while at my parents' house during the holidays I found my brother's PS1 and a bunch of games, many that are light gun compatible.... but no light gun. So I did a little research (mainly Wikipedia) and found out that there were two main guns produced for the PS1 the Justifier and the Guncon, but they are both only compatible with select games.

The Wikipedia article mentions that there are some third-party guns that are compatible with both types of games (Justifier and Guncon games). Does anyone know the name(s) of these guns and which one(s) are the best?

Thanks again.

Dusty

I'm unaware of any PS1 light guns which worked with both "standard" and Guncon games. I do know there were some dual system light guns which supported PS1 ("standard") and Saturn light gun games. I have a couple of those.

To tell the truth, you're better off just sticking with the Guncon. All the really good PS1 light gun games (Time Crisis, Project Titan, and Elemental Gearbolt) used the Guncon, and there were even oddball games like Gunfighter which supported it. The games which supported the "standard" PS1 light gun typically weren't all that great. I have a fondness for Crypt Killer, but if it's a choice between that and Time Crisis, then it's not even a contest, Time Crisis is gonna win.
