I just beat Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES) last night. I actually beat it once years ago, but I wanted to play through it again.

28. Pinocchio (Genesis)

 

Beat this on Hard today, having beaten it on Easy and Normal a couple weeks ago.

 

Typical mid-range Disney platformer with a couple quirky touches. It's also got the usual identity crisis, i.e. it can't decide whether it's a game for young kids or more seasoned gamers: most of the game is very easy and straightforward, but there are a few spots that get frustrating or obscure. Still, I beat each difficulty level on my first attempt. I'd give it a C+.

29. Art of Fighting (J) (Genesis)

 

Beat the Japanese version on Hard, quite easily. Still working on the US version, which has limited continues (boo!) and a much higher difficulty level.

 

I'd give this Mega Drive (JPN) version a C+, since the controls are MUCH better than the SNES version, though the graphics and (especially) sound FX are inferior. The AI is too easy, though.

 

The two home ports are surprisingly different in a bunch of ways, and the MD/Japanese and GEN/US ports have other differences from each other too. I wrote up a more extensive comparison on Sega-16, here. Note that some of the moves in the Genesis version are decidedly different from the SNES and Neo Geo versions.

 

I was hoping that #29 would be Star Odyssey -- got to the final boss Saturday night, but all my saved games were mysteriously wiped on Sunday morning. :(

Just finished Dragon Age II on 360 and also remembered that I completed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow a few weeks ago.
Your thoughts on LoS?

 

IIRC I quit LoS after the 10 hour mark. It was okay-ish for a while, but I never got warm with the protagonist or the story.

I loved the graphics and the stationary/scripted camera though, I hope more games return to this style :)

LOS-The payoff, or "ending" was worth the time put into the game. Overall, I found it to be a pretty good game. The graphics are as advertised. The knock for me wasn't the length of the game, a dynamic that bugged some reviewers, but the length of individual sections. I remember thinking a few times, "I've been in the village/castle/cave/etc for a long time fighting these same monsters".

 

A warning for fans of the nes castlevania, or even the Metroidvania games.....this is a different expereince. Much more in the GoW, Darksiders, or even OOT model.

30. Art of Fighting (U) (Genesis)

 

Beat Hard mode without losing a round, though with only one round per fight (instead of best two out of three). The US/Genesis version is much tougher in some respects than the Japanese one, but most characters are easy until you reach Mr. Big. Took some good luck to get past him. I'd give the game a C overall.

I just beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the default difficulty. And I think I forgot to mention it, but I also beat DMC 4 last month. Ninja Gaiden definitely was the better of the two :)

NG is a brutally difficult game. I've never even come close to beating it. You have more control then Castlevania, so I almost feel as though Konami (?) decided to make it harder as a trade off.

 

The music is awesome though.

Today I cleared level 16 of Pirate Ship Higemaru, so now it's considered beaten by Capcom Classic Collection! :D

(I also unlocked the other 3 extras)

Yesterday I beat Trojan and unlocked all 4 extras in Capcom Classic Collection! :D
