MaxSpeed #1 Posted December 9, 2002 Stargate is fantastic ! What a great game, so much better than Defender. I had bought a Defender II on eBAy and got a PAL version so beware. This game I feel is a must for any collector.
Inky #2 Posted December 9, 2002 If only someone would reprogramm it for the video touch pad controller, we'd be all set! It is the best arcade adaptation for the 2600, hands down.
Voch #3 Posted December 9, 2002 I just did a trade for it a week ago and I agree. Excellent game (except I keep shooting at the stargates forgetting what they are...DUH!). Voch
NE146 #4 Posted December 9, 2002 Yep.. it came out at that time along with Jr. Pacman where the games were EXCELLENT for the 2600, but by that time not many cared anymore.. Doesn't matter, they do rock But just imagine if they had came out a couple years earlier.. hmmmm....
AtariLeaf #5 Posted December 9, 2002 I just did a trade for it a week ago and I agree. Excellent game (except I keep shooting at the stargates forgetting what they are...DUH!). Voch Glad I could make another Atarian happy!
Witchfynde #6 Posted December 9, 2002 Yeah, both of 'em do kick butt. A friend of mine had Stargate when he bought his Atari at a pawn shop with a lot of games, and I played Jr. Pac-Man on emulation. It'll be better to get a real copy, though, so I can use a joystick (I don't have one for my computer). It's too fast to use keyboard keys!
Voch #7 Posted December 9, 2002 Glad I could make another Atarian happy! Yes...yes you did. I haven't fired up Defender since I got it. Although to be fair I kinda like the original Defender, too (I played it a lot over a friends' when I was a kid). Voch
Inky #8 Posted December 9, 2002 How about someone hack Stargate to remove the extraneous items and create a better version of Defender? J/K
Godzilla #9 Posted December 9, 2002 great idea inky. 2600 stargate is truly amazing. How many 2600 games actually feature every stage of their original arcade counterparts? Much less a game like stargate that has like, what 99 stages or something. I'll never forget how blown away I was by the starting sound in 2600 stargate. Just awesome. And then the graphics, at the time, I felt like I was playing the arcade game :-) It's still my favorite playing version of the defender/stargate type games. A nice dual joystick setup works well with this game. Also, if you have a joystick like the Sansei arcade controller that has all the directions replicated as buttons, it makes for a great second stick in stargate so you have all the buttons to press. I was so happy they left in all the features too! Stargate kicks major booty! :-)
Sir Plus #10 Posted December 9, 2002 That's a FANTASTIC idea!!! Should be easy to pull off as a hack. Way to go Ink! Programmers? Does this even work?
King Atari #11 Posted December 9, 2002 Stargate/Defender II truly is a great game. I got it fairly recently, I was pretty excited over it, too. A hack would be awesome.
