fdurso224 #1 Posted January 9, 2011 Hi guys, Do you believe that Xbox Live/PS3 Network is better then Facebook/Twitter when it comes to communicating with each other in social networking? What's everybody's opinion on this? I'm in a debate with myself, and I was wondering if my students need to contact me (besides e-mail), which would be a better option? All my students have a Xbox, PS3 Account and with Facebook and Twitter. Anthony....
+HammR25 #2 Posted January 9, 2011 If you're looking for one solution I'd say Facebook since it's free and it's not limited to a specific number of characters like Twitter. One has to buy a 360 or a PS3 to contact another person via those.

If I were to make a recommendation, I'd suggest using all four channels for communication. Both the 360 and PS3 interface with Facebook and Twitter (360 only with Gold accounts), plus you have the audience of Facebook and Twitter when they're not at their gaming console(s) of choice. SlowCoder #4 Posted January 10, 2011 Good responses by Rockman and Hammr. Unless you, as the teacher, want to have to go 4 different places to check your communications, select just one that's easy for you, and for the students. I don't have an XBox, and don't intend to get one. If I were your student and you told me I had to use my XBox account to communicate with you, I'd tell you you're buying me an XBox and paying the fees. And for the inconvenience you're doing me, you may as well buy me a couple games while you're at it. Call me old-school, but I also don't do all that social networking crud. I keep everyone I care about in contact. If Facebook is free, then I suppose I'd be willing to go with that, but I'd also want to be warned about the junk that's recently been an issue with Facebook surrounding publicizing of "private" data, so that I don't go posting my "private" intimacies. Video #5 Posted January 11, 2011 I triedd the whole "social networking" thing..I don't see the appeal of it honestly. Myspace is pretty well dead, everybody wants you to use facebook, it's been prooven a long time ago only about 10% or so of the folks on twitter actually use it (I think the article was on CNN or something) and PSN and XBL both require an expensive console and a continual expensive service (not everybody has broadband, despite common conception) or two services in the case of Xbox. Honestly, I'd stick with the old style phone numbers, texting and such as that. Maybe even email. But that's as far as I would bother with, the rest is just a bunch of fractured crap that's to be honest, poorly designed for socializing, despite being "social networking"
Arkhan #6 Posted January 12, 2011 Facebook. What if they need you when they're not at home. They cant just yank out their PS3 and send you a message, and neither can you. You can check facebook on the go with a phone, or a laptop. Plus do you really want students bugging you while youre shooting people in the face online? lol
Video #7 Posted January 12, 2011 You could try your own free board (there are plenty to choose from) as any student that has access to any other option can get to the internet and post online. Then you can also have each student have their own forum that only they (and you obviously) can go into. Still, I think just phoning and texting is all you really need.
