Bionic Commano Rearmed 2

Recommended Posts

Yea, I don't know how you add jumping to a BC game and make it work. I guess I'll have to wait and find out. I really liked BC: Rearmed though. I actually still want to play the new retail BC as well, even though I heard that it wasn't that great.

Think I'll skip on this one. One of the things that ruined the modern Bionic Commando game (PS3, 360) for me was the ability to jump, among other things (there's a whole list of grievances I have with that game, but I digress). Jumping isn't part of the Bionic Commando game mechanics and really seems out of place. The original Rearmed played well because it adhered, more or less, to the original NES formula with puzzles requiring complete and total mastery of the claw arm to maneuver around in the air. BCR2 seems poised to take all that and throw it right out the window. So I think I'll pass.

I never played the original "Rearmed" or the modern remake, but I did play the NES and Game Boy versions a lot, and while I can understand that the inability to jump gave the game a special feel, I don't really understand why being able to jump should be such a problem. I mean, doesn't it all come down to level design? If you don't want jumping to ruin the usefulness of the bionic arm, then make the levels so expansive that being able to jump won't make that much of a difference, since jumping won't help you progress like the bionic arm does.

Just my two cents.

The IGN preview says they have poor level design. You actually get a bonus for not jumping at the end of levels too apparently. I think it would be cool if you could remap the controller so jump is unmapped. I still won't get it until it's $10 or less though since the first one was $10. Of course that's assuming I like the trial version. The person who did the IGN preview is a big BC fan so I could like it more than her since I'm not a huge fan of the series being that I never played it until Rearmed hit the 360.
